Leeds United news as Whites handed major boost, 'glaringly obvious' problem highlighted

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Wednesday, October 20.

Ayling pictured back in training

Leeds' injured right-back Luke Ayling has been pictured back in training after being injured for a month.

Ayling has been out after suffering a knee injury in the 1-1 draw with Newcastle last month.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa said he needed some 'simple' surgery and this evening the club posted a photograph of Ayling in training along with a caption: "Another step closer!"

There was no update on when the 30-year-old will be available for the first team.

The club also posted a photograph of Kalvin Phillips at training, though there was no indication as to whether he would be fit for Saturday's match against Wolves.

Matteo bemoans 'glaringly obvious' issue

Former Leeds player Dominic Matteo says the team is too dependent on a few stars and has insufficient depth in the squad when those players are out.

“The problems are glaringly obvious,” Matteo said in his blog. “We have no replacement for Kalvin Phillips, no one with the quality of Raphinha, and no one who even looks like scoring like Paddy Bamford.

“Without one of those, we have a problem, but when we’re without all three…”

He added some optimism though: "For what it’s worth, and as half-empty as you might think my glass is today, I don’t subscribe to the view that we could be on our way back to the Championship."

Wolves handed boost ahead of Elland Road visit

Wolves have been handed an injury boost ahead of their trip to Elland Road on Saturday with winger Francisco Trincao returning to training.

Bruno Lage’s side will be hoping to make it four wins on the bounce this weekend and it looks like they will be assisted by having the Portuguese winger available again against Leeds.

Trincao tested positive for Covid-19 whilst away on international duty with Portugal two weeks ago and, according to Wolves boss Lage, was ill for two or three days.

However, he is now back training with his Wolves teammates and looks like being full fit for Saturday.
