Leeds United news as Victor Orta travels to Madrid to 'negotiate a deal' for Andoni Iraola

Here are your latest Leeds United headlines for Wednesday, February 8.

Victor Orta's trip to Madrid as Leeds 'negotiate a deal' for Andoni Iraola

Leeds United chief Victor Orta has reportedly travelled to Madrid to 'negotiate a deal' with Rayo Vallecano for their manager Andoni Iraola.

According to the Daily Mail, Orta updated the players of the managerial situation at Thorp Arch earlier today before heading to Spain to work out an agreement.

Iraola is believed to be a key target for Leeds after they sacked Jesse Marsch earlier this week, as the Spaniard has led Rayo Vallecano to fifth in La Liga.

The Celtic board remain confident that Ange Postecoglou will not leave them for Leeds United, despite reports emerging that his name is also on the Elland Road shortlist.

Leeds started the interview process for Jesse Marsch's replacement on Monday with further discussions held on Tuesday. According to the Daily Record, Celtic had received no contract as of late Tuesday afternoon from the Leeds board asking for permission to start talks with Postecoglou.

The report added that chief executive Michael Nicholson and chairman Peter Lawwell have insisted that the Australian is completely committed to guiding Celtic towards a second successive Scottish Premiership title.

Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has also been proposed to the club and has quickly been installed as the bookmakers' leading favourite. Ex-Leeds assistant and under-23s head coach Carlos Corberan has dropped out of the running by penning a new long-term deal at West Brom.

Leeds United looking to insiders to leverage Manchester United advantage

Leeds United will be relying on the expertise of both Chris Armas and Ewan Sharp this week as they take on Manchester United twice in the space of five days. The pair were part of the Old Trafford coaching staff last season under Ralf Rangnick and therefore they have a comprehensive knowledge about certain players and characteristics within the Red Devils’ camp.

Both Armas and Sharp left Man United in the summer, with the latter making the immediate switch to Leeds, while Armas arrived at Elland Road a couple of weeks ago. As such, they won’t be able to provide much insight into Erik ten Hag’s thinking leading into the double-header, but the information they are in possession of could be valuable as the Whites aim to bring an end to their seven game winless run.

That recent form was enough to bring an end to Jesse Marsch’s tenure on Monday afternoon, meaning Armas will be one of three men in charge in Leeds dugout tonight, alongside Paco Gallardo and Michael Skubala. The trio have taken just one training session and as a result, extensive changes are not expected.

Leeds United could prove Jesse Marsch right by unleashing what he said they always needed

How do the caretakers change it?

Michael Skubala hinted at nothing more than tweaks to Leeds United’s set-up, but would not specify what they might alter with so little time for them to prepare the side. How many changes in personnel will they make?

Does the formation change or the width or the way they want to attack? Skubala made a point of praising how well he felt the team had been playing without the ball in recent weeks, but there could be changes to how they use possession when they have it.

Stop the Old Trafford rot with a miraculous win?

On the two visits Leeds have had to Old Trafford since promotion, they were backed by the tactical genius of Marcelo Bielsa, but lost 11-3 on aggregate. They now return to the home of their most-hated rivals with no permanent head coach and a run of two wins in 17 league games.
