Leeds United news as Victor Orta's 'beautiful' Whites tenure hailed

Here are the latest evening Leeds United headlines on Friday, June 23.

'Beautiful' Orta tenure praised

As Victor Orta gets to work in his new job at Sevilla, one of his former colleagues at Elland Road has looked back at the 'beautiful experience' they shared at Leeds United.

Julio Banuelos was hired by Orta as an assistant to Thomas Christiansen back in 2017 in one of Orta's first acts as Leeds' director of football and has spoken to ABC Sevilla about their new sporting director.

“I have a very positive experience with Victor," he said. "He gave us the opportunity to work and get to know English football. We came from playing in the Europa League with Apoel. At Leeds it was a beautiful experience… it was all very nice."

Banuelos also gave insight into Orta's working style behind the scenes at Elland Road.

“He interacted a lot with us, but always from a positive perspective. He never got involved as other technical or sports directors do in issues of lineups or in day-to-day work,” he added.

“The ‘feedback’ with Victor was very good. He tried to help us as much as possible. Neither Thomas Christiansen nor I can say anything negative about Victor Orta. He didn’t put us in trouble with anything we asked for at a big club like Leeds United.

“He’s a very proactive person, who always anticipates events, what can happen. All this helped us to learn more quickly the idiosyncrasies of English football. He had impeccable behaviour with us and always helped us.”

Leeds United takeover still playing its part in timing of head coach unveiling

Takeover and transition of power has been the story of the summer at Leeds United and it continues to play its part in the next big decision. While an agreement is in place between Aser Ventures and 49ers Enterprises, until the final paperwork is cleared by the EFL, Andrea Radrizzani remains majority shareholder and chairman.

Radrizzani’s name is above the door still, but talks with prospective head coaches have taken place in London this week with chairman-elect Paraag Marathe and chief executive Angus Kinnear, among other decision-makers. While that process has been able to move forward with some confidence after the takeover agreement, formally announcing a new boss may have to wait a little longer.

LeedsLive understands the new administration wants to ensure everything is done in the right order and, ideally, with the takeover officially ratified before a new head coach is announced. There is confidence down the corridors of Elland Road the new era’s owners and directors will get the green light in the coming days.

Crysencio Summerville breaks silence on Leeds United future

Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville has said he will remain focused on the Netherlands European U21s Championship campaign before he addresses his club future, following the Whites relegation from the Premier League.

The 21-year-old winger enjoyed something of a breakout campaign for Leeds last season, as he announced himself on the scene by scoring in four consecutive matches before the World Cup break, including a memorable last-minute winner against Liverpool at Anfield last November.

Summerville was unable to add to his goalscoring tally over the second half of the campaign as Leeds slipped into a relegation battle that they ultimately lost, but Summerville appears to have won over a number of admirers as Leeds head into a summer of uncertainty when it comes to who they will be able to keep hold of.
