Leeds United news as Stuart Dallas set for fresh honour as success recognised back home

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Monday, June 7.

Dallas homeland honour

Stuart Dallas is set for another honour, fresh from capping his first Premier League season with a hat-trick of awards at Leeds United's end-of-season celebration.

The versatile Northern Irishman took home the club's Goal of the Season, Player's Player of the Season and Player of the Season awards at the Elland Road ceremony following the final-day win over West Bromwich Albion last month.

His stunning campaign is now being recognised back home, as Mid-Ulster council have called for his achievements to be officially recognised.

UUP councillor Trevor Wilson called for Dallas to the be commended by council.

“Stuart Dallas has won three of the top football awards at Leeds United," the Belfast Telegraph reports Wilson as saying.

“This is the first year that Leeds have been in the Premiership [sic] for quite a number of years and is the first year Stuart has played in the Premiership.

“To win three awards on the night is a remarkable achievement for a young fella from Cookstown and I propose that we write to Stuart Dallas congratulating him on his efforts this season.”

The proposal was quickly seconded, with the council containing a number of Leeds fans who did not need any convincing at handed Dallas his latest honour.

Leeds fans hijack Ben White award vote

It's been some 24 hours for Ben White.

The former Leeds United loan man made his first England start on Sunday afternoon, helping the Three Lions earn a clean sheet in their final Euro 2020 warm-up match in the 1-0 win over Romania.

His performance convinced Gareth Southgate to hand him the final place in his squad for this summer's tournament on Monday morning as the Brighton defender replaced the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold in the final 26-man selection.

In between this, he was also named Brighton's Men's Player of the Season as the Seagulls handed out their end-of-season awards.

Here's why he had Leeds fans to thank for that.

Bielsa gives Southgate final pieces to England jigsaw

Leeds United fans' last experience of England at a major tournament was much like any other supporter's in 2018.

They cheered a Three Lions squad, punctuated predominantly by players representing the cream of the Premier League crop - it had been sixteen years since England had a Leeds representative at a major competition.

Having finished in the bleakness of the Championship's mid-table cabal under Paul Heckingbottom, nobody could have predicted that in three years' time, Leeds United's mark on Gareth Southgate's England setup would have changed so dramatically.

This summer, Kalvin Phillips and former loan defender Ben White are amongst Southgate's 26-man squad - and both have Bielsa to thank.
