Leeds United news as striker tells of confidence ahead of clash with Aston Villa

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Friday, September 30.

Ollie Watkins sends warning ahead of Leeds clash

Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins has warned that goals “will come” ahead of his side’s trip to Elland Road to face Leeds United on Sunday.

Watkins has hit double figures in the last two seasons – scoring 16 and 11 respectively, and has finished as the club’s top goal scorer in both campaigns.

However, the 26-year-old has found the net just once in seven in the Premier League so far this term. Despite his slow start to the campaign, Watkins is confident that he will soon hit a rich vein of form.

“I feel like I’ve been playing well,” Watkins told the Express and Star. “The No. 1 thing is I always work hard.

“Maybe I need to be more selfish and shoot. I like to think I am a team player. It will come. I will score some goals and go from there. I just need to be patient.”

Leeds United left-back question as Jesse Marsch ponders his options

It seems decisions must be made in a handful of positions across the Leeds side, with changes potentially coming up front, at right-back and in the centre of defence. However, Marsch must also think about his left-back options, now Junior Firpo is fit and ready to return to action.

Steven Gerrard faced with two Aston Villa dilemmas Leeds United can exploit

Aston Villa have full-back issues Leeds United may look to exploit on Sunday at Elland Road. Luis Sinisterra and Jack Harrison are likely to be the hosts’ wingers, but there could also be joy for whoever Jesse Marsch chooses at full-back.

In the narrow system we know Marsch likes to use, full-backs have grown in importance if the Whites are to make any gains in wide areas.

Makeshift or back-up choices from Steven Gerrard down the sides of the away defence could give Leeds wingers more space, and less pressure on home full-backs.
