Leeds United news as Steven Gerrard details preparation for 'tough' Elland Road challenge

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines on Friday, September 30.

Steven Gerrard thinks Aston Villa can get at Jesse Marsch's Leeds United

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has reminded Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch that the American's side 'hasn't had the best results' ahead of this Sunday's Premier League clash.

Gerrard, who praised Marsch's scouting department in bringing quality players over the summer, was wary of the Whites' ability but has claimed it's been missing in recent games.

Leeds currently sit 11th in the Premier League table after taking eight points from their opening six games while Gerrard's side have only taken seven points from seven matches.

Speaking at Friday's pre-match press conference, Gerrard was asked about the month-long gap Leeds have had in between matches and how it'll affect his opponents.

"No they haven't [played for over a month] but again, that's similar to our situation when we played against Leicester and you just have to accept it and respect the situation.

"It gives you training time - that's what it's given a lot of managers and coaches and I'm sure Leeds have tried to use that time as wisely as they can but for us it's about preparing for a tough opponent.

"Jesse [Marsch] has obviously started the season very strong but hasn't really had the best results recently but I'm sure he's delighted with what his lads have shown him so far this season and he's signed and recruited extremely well.

"Going to Elland Road, we know the challenge is big but it's exciting and we've prepared in the best way we can and we'll be ready for the challenge when it comes."

Injury latest as Marsch delivers encouraging update ahead of Villa

Leeds United will approach their clash with Aston Villa this weekend with something close to a full-strength squad, Jesse Marsch has confirmed. The head coach has a couple of new injury concerns, but a majority of the group will be available to take on Steven Gerrard’s side at Elland Road on Sunday.

The Whites haven’t played for almost four weeks and in that time the likes of Patrick Bamford, Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper, Junior Firpo and Rodrigo have regained full fitness and it seems they could all be in contention to start this week. However, Leeds will be without Adam Forshaw this weekend, who has picked up an ankle issue.

The midfielder isn’t expected to miss too much action, though, and his fitness will certainly be useful as the games begin to come thick and fast before the next international break. Archie Gray has sat out of training for the last two weeks after breaking a toe and he won’t feature for the Under-21s this evening against Stoke City.

Koch relishing Leeds United return but wary of Villa dangers

Robin Koch is relishing Leeds United's return to action this weekend but says the dressing room is aware of the dangers Aston Villa pose.

Leeds will be missing manager Jesse Marsch in the dugout after he was sent to the stands against Brentford, but Villa have a whole host of key players missing including Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the German opened up about how he and his teammates will feel finally getting back to the pitch again, especially in front of a home crowd.
