Leeds United news as Roy Keane slams Whites forward's 'sloppiness' after World Cup opener

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines on Tuesday, November 22.

Roy Keane slams Leeds United midfielder's 'sloppiness' after World Cup opener

Former Republic of Ireland international and ITV Sport pundit Roy Keane has slammed Leeds United loanee Daniel James after his performance in Wales' World Cup opener against the USA.

James faced two Whites teammates in Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson last night but was subbed off at halftime for Bournemouth striker Kieffer Moore whose presence seemed to turn the game in Wales' favour.

Despite the U.S taking the lead on the 36th minute mark after Timothy Weah slotted home, a Gareth Bale penalty secured Wales' first World Cup point since 1958.

Speaking on ITV Sport last night, Keane tore into James' performance at half-time before the decision was made by Welsh manager Rob Page to take him off.

"Wales haven’t got started. But go back to the basics. They have been sloppy in play. They have given away the ball cheaply.

"It’s gone up to [Dan] James and he’s not got hold of it. You are not giving yourself a breather in the game. You have good options off the bench. Keep your head. But also, somebody say to these players ‘liven up, we need a little bit more. Cut out the sloppiness’."

Midfielders Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson turned out for the USA, while Leeds forward Daniel James, who is currently on-loan at Fulham, featured for Wales.

While the USA took the lead in the first half through Timothy Weah, Wales managed to respond late in the second half thanks to a Gareth Bale penalty.
