Leeds United news as Rodrigo receives Barcelona praise, key factor in Raphinha move outlined

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Saturday, March 6.

'Leeds showed how much they wanted him'

Raphinha's agent and former Chelsea midfielder Deco has outlined the role that director of football Victor Orta played in bringing the Brazilian sensation to Elland Road.

With five goals and five assists to show for his 21 appearances in the Premier League so far, the former Rennes player has turned plenty of heads - and defenders - since his £17million move to the Whites last summer.

It was initially thought Raphinha would stay in France for another year before being allowed to move on.

Leeds 0-1 Aston Villa - Marcelo Bielsa reacts

But one call from Leeds' director of football was enough to convince the Brazilian that Elland Road was the perfect place for him to take the next step.

Deco, who played for Chelsea between 2008 and 2010, said: "In football sometimes, it's important when someone wants you, really wants you - and Leeds they showed how much they wanted Raphinha.

"That's why it was important for him. He was happy, he saw the people when they call, Victor (Orta) and the president they call him and want him and this is important for the player too.

"That's why they convinced Raphinha to come."

Raphinha sums up Bielsa in one word

Marcelo Bielsa has lived up to and exceeded every expectation that summer signing Raphinha had of the Leeds manager.

That's according to the player himself, who described Bielsa as a 'professor' during an in-depth interview with Sky Sports, filmed during the build-up to West Ham.

Raphinha said: "He's a very demanding coach, but I think the style of play of the 'professor' really suits my style of play.

"He demands the maximum from all his players and as a result our style of play comes naturally. He always expresses his opinion and likes to hear the opinions of the players so we reach a consensus that benefits the team."

Rodrigo's praise from an old team-mate

Barcelona goalkeeper Neto has labelled fit-again Leeds striker Rodrigo a 'phenomenon' in response to his latest Instagram post.

The 30-year-old, who joined Leeds for £26m last summer, continued his comeback trail with two goals for the under-23s during their 2-0 victory against Wolves yesterday afternoon.

It came in front of his watching manager Bielsa, who was sent a timely reminder of the Spaniard's talents ahead of the Premier League clash at West Ham on Monday night.

But it seems as though the Argentine wasn't the only one who took notice - namely Rodrigo's former Valencia team-mate Neto, who now plies his trade at the Nou Camp.

In response to the above post, he simply said: "Fenomeno," which is Spanish for phenomenon.
