Leeds United news as rivals' new signing fires 'no excuses' promotion warning

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Saturday, July 1.

Leicester new boy's 'no excuses' warning after Foxes double deal

As Leeds United still await EFL approval for their takeover from 49ers Enterprises, one of their expected main promotion rivals have enjoyed a busy Saturday, signing up two England internationals.

Leicester City have made a statement of intent, by landing Harry Winks from Tottenham in a reported £10million and also signing Conor Coady from Wolves, in a transfer believed to be an initial £7.5million. Both players arrive at the King Power with ten England caps each and Coady was quick lay down an early Championship gauntlet.

“I’ve played against the club numerous times and it’s so, so hard playing against Leicester City," he told the club's website. "That’s something we need to take into the season. This place is incredible, I think it’s the best training ground I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s got absolutely everything so there’s no excuses for us going forward into the new campaign.

“Knowing a few of the lads here as well and how they speak of the football club, but looking at Leicester City as a whole, it’s such an exciting place to be. I’m massively excited about joining so it wasn’t a hard decision. As soon as I heard of the interest, it was something I wanted to pursue. I can’t wait to get started.”

Size of Victor Orta's task after Leeds United exit spelt out by Sevilla claims

Former Leeds United director of football Victor Orta faces a difficult first few weeks in his new job at Sevilla, according to reports from Spain.

Marca write that despite turning a season where they looked at risk of relegation into one where they claimed Champions League qualification by winning the Europa League, all is still not entirely well at Sevilla.

They claim that debts of over £90m have led club president Pepe Castro to tell his backroom staff that no members of their playing squad should be considered unsellable. Even in a transfer market inflated by fees from the Premier League and Saudi Arabia, that’s a hefty amount of money to raise; they’re either going to lose a big chunk of their squad, several of their best players, or both.

That is the context that Orta walks into after taking over from his highly-regarded former mentor Monchi, who is now in an equivalent role at Aston Villa. Even among that background, fans will be keen to see the club maintain the kind of standard that has seen them win seven Europa League titles since 2006.

Lucas Radebe's message to 49ers and Andrea Radrizzani amid Leeds United woe

Lucas Radebe believes that losing Andrea Radrizzani as owner will be a sad day for the Whites, but is nonetheless hopeful that the club can get back to happier days as soon as possible.

Leeds United are currently in the midst of a takeover attempt by 49ers Enterprises, which would bring Radrizzani’s six-year stint as majority shareholder to an end. The deal is currently pending EFL approval, a process that can take weeks or months to complete from the time the application is lodged.

Once complete, the takeover would mark the beginning of yet another new regime at Elland Road after two decades of upheaval – with Radrizzani’s time in charge standing as easily the most successful period.

United climbed back into the Premier League after a 16-year absence under the Italian’s watch, but his reputation has taken a hit more recently with relegation back to the Championship prompting uncertainty about the club’s future.
