Leeds United news as Real Madrid linked with cut-price move for Whites star

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Wednesday, June 7.

Real Madrid linked with bargain Rodrigo swoop

Fresh from his best goalscoring season at Leeds United and on the back of a Spain recall, only the most optimistic Whites fan would be confident of hanging onto Rodrigo this summer.

And it hasn't taken long for the Spanish press to speculate that the 31-year-old is set for a return to La Liga, with a report from Cadena COPE revealing a surprising destination and an even more surprising price tag for the forward.

They report that Rodrigo is 'an option' for Real Madrid and claim that a release clause in his contract means that after relegation, they can land the Spain international for just €3.5m.

This comes after Karim Benzema left the club to move to Saudi Pro League, while the 14-time European champions look set to land England midfielder Jude Bellingham for a fee believed to be around £88million. Harry Kane has also been linked, but would cost a whole lot more than the €3.5m quoted here.

Leeds United hit with FA charge

Leeds United have been charged by the FA following an incident during their clash with Newcastle United at Elland Road in the Premier League last month. Sam Allardyce’s side drew 2-2 with the Magpies after giving away two penalties and missing one of their own in a contest that was racked with tension and frustration.

The charge relates to an incident which occurred in the Newcastle United technical area, as a man left his seat and escaped the attention of stewards to confront Eddie Howe. The man was arrested at Elland Road, with the club confirming they had dished out a lifetime ban before West Yorkshire Police issued him with charges of assault and entering the field of play.

Leeds United's Carlos Corberan conversation and West Brom boss's get out clause

Seemingly destined to be Leeds United manager ever since winning Marcelo Bielsa's endorsement back in 2018, Carlos Corberan has long seemed on a path that will lead him back to Elland Road. The route from Spain to Beeston may have been a complicated one with a surprise Huddersfield Town exit and then short-lived Olympiacos tenure taking him to West Bromwich Albion, but for each move Corberan has taken, he's seemingly never strayed far from the eye of those in charge at Leeds.

Too obvious a decision for Victor Orta to make, the more pragmatic Angus Kinnear is understood to be putting his focus on tried and tested in this country rather than plucking a name from Europe and for that description, Corberan ticks a lot of boxes.
