Leeds United news as PSG boss opens up on Arnaud Kalimuendo's future

Here are your Leeds United evening for headlines for Saturday, July 23.

PSG boss on Leeds target's future

Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier has opened up on the future of Leeds United-linked striker Arnaud Kalimuendo.

The 20-year-old forward has emerged as a key target for Leeds in their quest to bring further firepower to Elland Road.

Galtier, quoted by Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, said: “Kalimuendo’s future? I’m more than happy with him, he’s doing great but then… there’s the market. We’ll see club and player’s decision”.

Leeds have been linked with a £21million bid for the forward and will be hopeful that Galtier's comments leave the door open for a possible move.

Bamford eyes World Cup dream

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford says he is fully focused on the Whites, but admits the World Cup in Qatar this winter is still in the back of his mind.

The English forward has worked hard this summer to get back to his best physically after an injury-stricken campaign last season. The 28-year-old has one England cap to his name, making his debut last September.

He told BBC Sport: "I've got to concentrate on Leeds, but I would be lying if I said the World Cup wasn't in the back of my mind because obviously, it's every kid's dream. But I know that there's a lot of hard work I've got to do to even put my name in the picture."

Rodrigo tipped to play key role

Jesse March is confident that Rodrigo will have an important role to play for Leeds United this season. The Spain international has been a divisive figure at Elland Road for fans since his move from Valencia for a club record fee, drifting in and out of form and struggling at times to make the desired impact.

The Spaniard featured in all three of Leeds' games Down Under, and scored in the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace to round off the tour.

“The penalty was shaky in general but Rodrigo knows he's an important player, knows he's got a lot of quality,” Marsch said after the club’s final tour outing. “In those moments we all have trust he's going to step up and bury it, which he did.

“We need him to be at his best. He's going to be important here and we have to make sure, in every way, he's engaged and pushing. He's part of the leadership council and that can really help.”
