Leeds United news as Patrick Bamford u-turn prospects mulled after Euro 2020 snub

Here are this morning's latest Leeds United headlines on Thursday, June 3.

Bamford international u-turn 'not realistic'

Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny is not expecting Patrick Bamford to switch nationalities following his Euro 2020 snub with England.

The Leeds United forward missed out on a place in Gareth Southgate's final squad for this summer's rearranged tournament despite a stellar season which saw him score 17 Premier League goals and provide seven assists.

Bamford is eligible to represent Kelly's side, but has previously rejected a call-up and the Republic boss does not see his stance changing.

He said: "He was very close to being in contention, maybe, for England for the European Championship. It's not realistic to suggest that at the moment, I would feel.

"I think that was obviously his objective, to go to the European Championship with England.

"There's no doubt he's a very good player, a quality centre-forward, but we have to believe in the talent that we have. We have to work to improve it and get better.

"It's unusual for players to switch nationality - I'm not saying it never happens - so quickly after a situation of just being left out of a tournament. There are not many instances of that. Normally it's over a long period."

Harry Kane was the only Englishman to score more goals than Bamford this year, but Kelly is not convinced this will prompt a change of heart.

"I really don't know, I really don't know," he added.

"He is a good player, but his objective was clearly to play for England, so I have to respect that."

Orta admits 'weekly' letters of complaint

Victor Orta has revealed that even now he still gets regular letters of complaints from Leeds fans - but 'loves' the passion and demands that fans place on him.

"I’ve fallen in love with Leeds and the passion here," he has told OneFootball.

“You can feel everything you do with the fans – in a good and bad way! I receive letters of complaint every week, even now.

"I still receive two or three complaint letters per week, but I love this passion, I love this demand, I love this excellence."

The Whites director of football also opened up on how his scouting team narrow down their transfer targets and more.

Roy Keane's Phillips Euros verdict

Kalvin Phillips has been praised as one Gareth Southgate’s “very good” options in the England engine room ahead of Euro 2020.

Roy Keane addressed the midfielders Southgate had decided to take to the tournament in his 26-man squad during ITV’s coverage of England’s friendly with Austria.

In looking at the injury situation with Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson, Keane said the midfielders Southgate had included were impressive in his eyes.

“The player options are very, very good, but of course you’re always worried about one or two injuries going into it particularly if he’s thinking of getting Jordan Henderson involved,” he said.

Here's what he said in full.
