Leeds United news as Patrick Bamford shines vs Leicester and Paul Merson reveals big Whites fear

Here are the Leeds United evening headlines on Sunday, January 31.

Bamford shines in Leeds victory

Patrick Bamford was the star man as Leeds picked up a crucial 3-1 win away at Leicester City this afternoon.

Bamford provided two assists - his first to Stuart Dallas and then to Jack Harrison - and also scored a fantastic goal as the Whites secured back-to-back Premier League wins.

The striker, who has been in fine form all season for the newly-promoted side, continues to impress in the top-flight as he looks to secure a spot in the England squad for the European Championship in the summer.

Bielsa's side were brilliant and there were many other outstanding performers at the King Power Stadium.

Dallas, who initially equalised for the Whites, was another key cog in the visitors' performance.

Mateusz Klich, who replaced Rodrigo Moreno on 21 minutes, was excellent when he came onto the pitch and showed an upturn in his recent form.

Merson's Whites fear

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes Leeds will always be a mid-table while Bielsa is in charge at Elland Road.

What Leeds' presence in the Premier League this season has shown is that Bielsa's team are brilliant going forward but sometimes can look vulnerable in defence.

Currently 12th in the league, it's been a really strong start for the Whites who have showcased the Argentine's unique style of play.

However, Merson reckons this could mean that Leeds will be restricted in terms of league position in the long run.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the ex-Arsenal midfielder said: “That’s where they’re going to end up, though, isn’t it? They’re always going to be middle of the table.

“You couldn’t say if he stayed there for five years, Leeds would get Champions League football.”

Mujica announcement expected

According to reports from Spain, Rafa Mujica will be announced as a Las Palmas player in the "next few hours".

Leeds striker Mujica spent the first half of the season on loan at Real Oviedo, but couldn't cement a place in the first-team.

Now, the young forward is closing in on a move to Las Palmas and the deal is reportedly all but done.

Mujica's exit from Oviedo is "only pending confirmation", Grada3 have claimed, while La Voz de Galicia are reporting that his signing will be made official "in the next few hours".

Bielsa discusses the transfer rumours about Alioski

The 22-year-old arrived at Elland Road in 2019 from Barcelona B, but is yet to make a senior appearance under Marcelo Bielsa.
