Leeds United news as Patrick Bamford reveals 'emotional' Diego Llorente after Liverpool defeat

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Thursday, September 16.

Bamford explains Llorente condition

Patrick Bamford has given an update on his Leeds United team-mate Diego Llorente after admitting he was 'emotional' after coming off injured against Liverpool.

“How is Llorente? How was he after that, going off obviously wasn’t ideal, is he in good spirits? Is he alright?" Bamford was asked on the official Leeds United podcast.

“Well, after the game he was a bit emotional because I think he was probably panicking that it (the injury), was something similar to last year that kept him out for a while," he explained.

I saw him this morning and he seemed in good spirits and he was smiling, so I think he’s alright."

Injury update

Leeds United head into this weekend's fixture against Newcastle knowing there will need to be a reshuffle in defence.

Marcelo Bielsa has revealed that in addition to Pascal Struijk's three-match suspension, centre-back Diego Llorente will also be missing from the group to face the Magpies.

Llorente was substituted with what appeared to be a hamstring injury shortly after the half-hour mark at Elland Road on Sunday.

His replacement, Struijk, was subsequently sent off for a strong tackle on Liverpool's Harvey Elliott which Craig Pawson and his officials deemed a red card offence.

Bielsa press conference in full

Marcelo Bielsa was on good form this afternoon as he spoke to Leeds United journalists.

The Argentine was particularly forthcoming on a range of topics, including Diego Llorente's suspected absence, Pascal Struijk's suspension and the fitness of other key players.

Leeds head into Friday night's fixture knowing anything less than a win will be a disappointment, given the double they completed over Newcastle United last season.

The Whites saw off Newcastle by two goals to one at St James' Park in January, despite a late fight-back from the hosts.

Despite Leeds' less-than-inspiring start to the season, this weekend's opponents have begun in an increasingly worrying fashion.
