Leeds United news as Motherwell keen on reunion with Whites youngster

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Tuesday, 16 August 2022.

Motherwell eye McKinstry

Motherwell are interested in a season-long-loan move for Leeds United youngster Stuart McKinstry. That is according to the Scottish Herald, who claim that Motherwell are leading the race ahead of the likes of Hartlepool United.

The 19-year-old progressed through the ranks of the Motherwell academy as a youngster until he made the switch to Leeds in 2019. McKinstry is out of contract at Elland Road next summer and is yet to agree an extension, but Jesse Marsch is keen for him to go play regular football.

Skubala

Michael Skubala saw plenty of progress from Leeds United U21s on Monday afternoon, despite seeing his side held to a 2-2 draw by Norwich City at Thorp Arch. The Whites were aiming to build on their opening day 5-2 win over Derby County and they took the lead early in the contest as Mateo Joseph fired home from close range.

Skubala was able to name an extremely strong U21s side with a number of senior, first-team players making the drop down in the pursuit of game time. Adam Forshaw and Mateusz Klich were perhaps the most high profile players involved, while Summerville, Sam Greenwood, Cody Drameh and Leo Hjelde, took to the field, too, and the youth side coach has hailed their attitude.

“We need to support the first-team with the senior pros, like Klich, who played 90, came down and needs minutes because when they go into the Premier League, they need to be ready,” he added. “Training is one thing but they need to play games and part of my role is supporting that.

Drameh v Kristensen

Opportunities await Cody Drameh in the Championship after his rip-roaring half-season with Cardiff City last season, but Leeds United is where he wants to catch the eye. As reported several weeks ago, the right-back is currently set on remaining at Elland Road beyond the end of the transfer window.

The 20-year-old is not shying away from the fight with Rasmus Kristensen and Luke Ayling for starts in Leeds white. Drameh knows he has to catch the eye at every opportunity in order to push Jesse Marsch into a decision that keeps his two senior choices on the sidelines.

Drameh reportedly impressed in Monday’s Premier League 2 draw with Norwich City at Thorp Arch, but there’s a bigger chance on the horizon for the former Fulham man. Barnsley’s visit to Elland Road on August 24 is sure to be a night Marsch rings the changes.
