Leeds United news as Mateusz Klich laughs off and disproves rumours with one sentence

Here are the Leeds United morning headlines on Sunday 16th May, 2021.

Klich on burnout

Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich has been forced to address rumours over the team's supposed 'burnout' following the 4-0 win over Burnley on Saturday.

It was an emphatic victory - the Whites' largest of the season - as Marcelo Bielsa's men dismantled Sean Dyche's Burnley.

Following the game, Klich spoke to the media about burnout perceptions, making clear that the team are not struggling.

"Last two seasons we played more games than in the Premier League, and we are fine," Klich said after the final whistle.

"People will say we're going to burnout because we play at a high intensity but as you see our squad is getting stronger because now we're almost full strength, people have come back from injury."

Harrison knocking on door

Leeds United winger Jack Harrison is knocking on the door for a late and improbable England call-up, after earning two assists and scoring in the 4-0 victory over Burnley.

Now with eight goals and eight assists for the season, no English midfielder has registered as many goal involvements in the Premier League this season.

In the coming weeks England boss Gareth Southgate will name his England squad for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2020 tournament, in which Kalvin Phillips is expected to be named, with Patrick Bamford, Luke Ayling and now Jack Harrison all with an outside chance of making the selection.

No second-season-syndrome for Leeds, says Crouch

Former England and Premier League striker Peter Crouch declared on BT Sport's coverage of Burnley 0-4 Leeds United that he doesn't believe the Whites will be in trouble next season.

Plenty of pundits have forewarned Marcelo Bielsa over 'second-season-syndrome' which typically befalls promoted teams following a good first campaign back in the top flight.

Crouch has no such worries however, stating confidently that Leeds have shown more than enough to suggest their exploits will be sustainable.

"I think they'll go on and improve. They've been a breath of fresh air and it's nice to see teams come up from the Championship and not be scared of anyone and that is exactly how Leeds have played it this year."
