Leeds United news as Manchester City adopt 'Marching On Together' and parachute transfer tipped

Manchester City mistake

Leeds United fans were treated to a rendition of 'Marching on Together' as BT Sport's fake crowd noise mistakenly played the Leeds anthem during their coverage of City's 4-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The win was routine in the end for City, with Gabriel Jesus netting a brace, but at around the 35 minute mark, whoever was manning the fake crowd noise controls, accidentally played the iconic Leeds United song.

City made it 21 wins in-a-row, but the Leeds anthem was certainly the surprise of the evening.

Pep Guardiola's men are yet to beat Leeds United this season, a feat matched only by Leicester City and Manchester United.

Victor Orta lauded for shrewd transfers

Leeds United supporters have praised Director of Football Victor Orta for his role in securing multiple first-team players on the cheap during his time at the club.

A transfer fees graphic, courtesy of LUFC Data (@lufcdata) demonstrates just how efficient Leeds have been in the transfer market.

Barring the big-money summer additions of Rodrigo and Diego Llorente, there are very few players, signed by Orta, who Leeds have failed to extract maximum value for what they paid for them.

In modern football, this is quite unusual. As Leeds establish themselves as a Premier League club, there will be greater fees involved, which may give rise to more transfer mistakes but Orta's current record is one of the best in the division.

Fulham 'keeper suggested as parachute transfer

Fulham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola has been named as a potential addition to the Leeds United ranks in order to provide competition for Illan Meslier.

With Kiko Casilla currently the only senior alternative at the club, Meslier needs an adequate No. 2 to push him in order to retain the No. 1 spot on merit.

Fulham stopper Areola has been listed as a potential candidate in that regard, particularly if the Cottagers are relegated. The former PSG man could be parachuted out of West London and into West Yorkshire where he could be expected to feature semi-regularly in place of Meslier.

However, Meslier's grip on the No. 1 spot is currently rather firm, having earned eight clean sheets in the Premier League before his 21st birthday - a top flight record.
