Leeds United news as Luis Sinisterra continues superb form with brace in Colombia comeback win

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Wednesday, September 28.

Sinisterra brace

Leeds United winger Luis Sinisterra continued his excellent run of form late last night as he netted twice in Colombia’s 3-2 win over Mexico. Sinisterra came off the bench at half time with his side 2-0 down and within seven minutes had got Colombia back on level terms with two quick-fire goals.

The first, rather surprisingly, was a superb bullet header from a Juan Cuadrado corner, and the second a sweeping finish from inside the area. Sinisterra has now scored in each of his last four matches for club and country.

Delph

Former Leeds United midfielder Fabian Delph has called time on a 16-year senior career after announcing his retirement. The former Whites academy prospect burst onto the scene in the 2006/07 season, making an appearance against Derby County in the final game of the season after signing his first professional contract the year prior.

Delph would become an integral part of the Leeds United side that played their first season in League One in 2008-09. An impressive string of performances saw Aston Villa come calling and he'd leave Yorkshire for new pastures.

Summerville Sinisterra

Friendship started long before Leeds United for rival wingers Crysencio Summerville and Luis Sinisterra. The Dutch and Colombian forwards were reunited, it turns out, at Elland Road this summer.

One cursory glance at their respective careers, ages and nationalities is unlikely to have clicked the shared past they have at Feyenoord. It transpires they actually had two years together at the Rotterdam outfit before Summerville made the leap to Elland Road.

In July 2018, the Eredivisie giants would sign a 19-year-old Sinisterra from his native Colombia. He would be Summerville’s team-mate for two years before the latter was lured to Leeds by Victor Orta.
