Leeds United news as loanee praised for 'important' ability and Wilfried Gnonto verdict

Here are your morning Leeds United headlines on Thursday, 8 September.

Millwall boss Rowett praises Cresswell

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has admitted that Charlie Cresswell's loan move from Leeds United to the Lions has been a great get for the club - mainly because of his goalscoring ability.

Cresswell, who plays as a centre-half, has scored three times in his first six games for the South London club, including heading in the opener against Cardiff City in a 2-0 win on Saturday, after going out on a season-long loan there.

With captain Shaun Hutchinson ruled out with injury, the 21-year-old is primed to start for Millwall this weekend against Sunderland where he'll look to continue his stellar performances.

“We didn’t really expect to sign a goal-scoring centre-half – it doesn’t say that on his CV – but we know he attacks things well and arrives really well and aggressively," Rowett told London News Online.

“For a young lad, his timing and aggression has been fantastic. He wants to go and win everything – that can be a strength but also get you in trouble at times as a defender. It’s for us to try and help him when to use that aggression and when to maybe halt that aggression a little bit longer until the striker has made a decision.

“But he has done really well. I said to him when he came in: ‘It is going to be very difficult for any of our players to play 46 games’. But he has played the vast majority, something like seven out of the nine so far, which is a really good start.

“Now he’s probably going to have the opportunity to go and build on that. He has scored some important goals as well, long may that continue.”

Gelhardt gives Gnonto verdict

Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt has tipped new signing Wilfried Gnonto to do 'very well' after signing from FC Zurich on transfer deadline day last week.

The 18-year-old is the Italian national team's youngest ever goal scorer after his role in the 5-2 defeat at the hands of Germany in their UEFA Nations League game in June.

Gnonto has trained with Leeds over the last two days and Gelhardt has been impressed by the early signs shown by his new teammate.

Agent confirms Leeds interest in Serie A left-back

Mario Giuffredi, agent to 21-year-old Empoli left-back Fabiano Parisi, has confirmed interest from Leeds United after the club failed to sign him in the summer transfer window.

Parisi was a key member in both Avellino's promotion from Serie D to Serie C in the 2018/19 season before signing a three-year contract with Empoli in the Serie B. He then was instrumental in helping them reach the Serie A for the first time in his career last season.

Having made his Serie A debut this season, Parisi has helped Empoli in five league appearances this season, scoring once and helping his team keep one clean sheet.

In an interview with Italian website Tuttomercatoweb, Giuffredi revealed that the club had a lot of interest from a variety of clubs from many different countries, including the Yorkshire side.
