Leeds United news as Kristoffer Klaesson reportedly begins application ahead of proposed move

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Wednesday July 21, 2021.

Klaesson application

Leeds United's hunt for a second-choice goalkeeper could be coming to an end, if reports in Norway are to be believed.

The Whites have been in talks with Valerenga about the signature of 20-year-old Kristoffer Klaesson over the past week or so.

Journalist Jonas Giaever claims Klaesson has begun the process of applying for a work permit, which would allow him to sign for Leeds United.

Norway's Eliteserien is currently a Band 5 league under the FA's work permit system but despite their lowly standing and Klaesson not yet being a full international, it is expected he will be granted the necessary documentation.

Lewis Bate edges closer to move

Leeds United appear to have beaten competition from as many as four Premier League rivals to the signature of Chelsea's Lewis Bate.

The 18-year-old has turned down the chance to remain at Stamford Bridge in the hope of securing a pathway to first-team football elsewhere.

Chelsea currently have Billy Gilmour ahead of Bate in the pecking order, whereas it is expected the teenager will soon be challenging for a first-team role at Elland Road, provided he develops as anticipated in the U23s.

The Athletic have reported today that an announcement is imminent, with Leeds warding off any late hijackers.

Viduka's missing ingredient

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, Mark Viduka revealed that he believes Leeds United need a player who can thread a 'final ball'.

The retired Australian forward threw his support behind the team, claiming the 'sky is the limit' at present, but did have one area he would like to see remedied, perhaps in the transfer market.

“I would love to see them get a player who can play that final ball,” he claimed. “I thought that was missing for them a lot last season.

“They had a lot of possession in games but they had a lot of possession in the areas that weren’t very dangerous. [Patrick] Bamford had an unbelievable season and his finishing did wonders for the team last year but I think they need to add more in the final third.”
