Leeds United news as Kalvin Phillips reveals extent of injury that almost saw him miss Euro 2020

Here are this evening's latest Leeds United headlines on Saturday, June 6.

Kalvin Phillips makes injury admission

Kalvin Phillips has revealed that he has overcome a dislocated shoulder to be a part of England's Euro 2020 squad.

The Leeds United midfielder suffered the injury in the closing stages of Leeds' 3-1 win over West Brom on the final day of the season, as he was forced off in clear pain after he went down following a stoppage-time challenge.

"Obviously, it wasn't a great injury," he said in an England press conference ahead of tomorrow night's friendly against Romania.

"Not a good way to end the season as well but, I dislocated my shoulder and obviously I was very fearful that I wouldn't be involved in the camp and in the tournament.

"They are the first emotions that come to you as soon as you do it. I think obviously I've recovered well and my shoulder feels fine now so I'm just ready and raring to get going."

Phillips was not part of the Three Lions squad that saw off Austria 1-0 on Wednesday night, but will be hoping to be involved in England's final Euro 2020 warm-up match at the Riverside on Sunday evening.

Images show scale of Elland Road pitch work

The Elland Road pitch was undoubtedly a significant issue for Leeds United last season, with the playing surface deteriorating at the end of 2020 as players would often slip and slide.

The club had planned to replace their aging pitch in the summer of 2020, but the Covid shutdown and ensuing shortened summer meant that Leeds had just 56 days between their final match of the 2019-20 season and the 2020-21 campaign.

A failing drainage system that had originally been installed as part of improvements for Elland Road hosting three Euro 96 matches two-and-a-half decades ago was the root of the problem, with Leeds doing all they could to manage the issues that brought about.

The purchase of one of Spurs' spare pitches was a short-term fix, but work is now underway on a more permanent solution.

Rangers icon issues Kent warning

Whenever Ryan Kent's future is discussed, Leeds United's name has never been too far away over the past two years.

The former Liverpool winger has been the regular subject of reported interest in recent times and Rangers legend Brian Laudrup has been quick to mention the Elland Road side when discussing Kent's potential.

Kent has just lifted the Scottish Premiership title with Rangers, scoring ten times in the process for Steven Gerrard's side.

And ahead of the summer transfer window opening next week, former Gers midfielder Laudrup warning any potential suitors that his old side simply cannot entertain the thought of letting him go.
