Leeds United news as Kalvin Phillips is earmarked for crucial England role

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Thursday, June 24.

Phillips marked as key man for Germany clash

Gordon Strachan believes Kalvin Phillips will play a pivotal role for England when they face Germany next week.

The Leeds United midfielder is in contention to start in the Euro 2020 knockout tie after playing in all three group games.

"Kalvin Philips is key for England, he's the one that makes that run, but when I see him play for Leeds he's got a bigger range of passing," he told Betfair.

"Maybe that's because of the mentality at Leeds and there are so many people running about all over the place, it's mayhem there, but he seems to have a bigger range there.

"I would definitely keep picking Phillips. But the question is do you need two sitting midfielders? Man City don't usually play with two, it's usually just Fernandinho. Phillips can see the passes and he can be useful going forward."

Leeds fans voice Derby grievance

Leeds United fans have highlighted the confusion scale of punishment handed out by the English Football League after Derby County were handed a £100k fine.

The Rams are facing an ongoing legal battle with the EFL over a breach of Financial Fair Play regulations, which could still see them relegated to League One.

Derby survived the drop of the final day of the Championship season but could be handed a points deduction which would see them fall into the third tier and Wycombe Wanderers reinstated.

Casting back to 2019, Leeds were fined £200k for their involvement in the 'Spygate' saga, which saw Marcelo Bielsa heavily criticised.

Though the EFL deemed Bielsa's actions immoral, the Leeds boss didn't break any official rulings despite the fine, leaving Whites fans baffled at Derby receiving half the punishment despite the seriousness of their offence.

Leeds want 'wall of noise' at Elland Road

A wall of noise inspired by Borussia Dortmund’s ‘Yellow Wall’ heads a list of 70 proposals put to Angus Kinnear by Leeds United fans for Elland Road’s regeneration.

Leeds United Supporters Club has written to the chief executive with a series of documents calling for consultation ahead of the stadium’s redevelopment.

Kinnear has made no secret of the long-term desire to boost capacity to around 55,000 with an expansion of the John Charles Stand.

Leeds City Council published paperwork last week which hinted at an expansion to the north of the stadium too.

Supporters hope the Don Revie Stand can become the largest single-tier construction in English football.
