Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Tuesday, January 5.
Draxler links wow pundit
Paris Saint-Germain's Julian Draxler would be a "massive signing" for Leeds, according to former goalkeeper Paul Robinson.
Draxler is in the final year of his contract and is said not to be a part of Mauricio Pochettino's plans at the club. In late December, Gazzetta dello Sport via TeamTalk reported that Leeds were interested in bringing Draxler to the club, and Robinson believes it would be an incredible coup.
"If you’re linked with those sorts of players [Draxler], then it shows how far Leeds have come," he told MOT Leeds News. "It shows you’re competing properly at the top of the Premier League market."
"If you’re looking to sign players from PSG then it’s a different level to players we’ve been signing before. It’s going to be interesting to see what Poch does there. You’ve got a new manager going in, you’ve got a clean slate. If he was out of the picture there before he might not be now.
"If you can add a player like that to your squad it would be a massive signing for Leeds."
Radrizzani on fourth anniversary of investment
Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani ushered a statement on the future of the club on the fourth anniversary of his first investment in the club.
Radrizzani bought 50 per cent of the club on January 4, 2017 and became co-owner alongside Massimo Celino. Four months later, he bought the remaining shares to become the sole owner and has since brought Marcelo Bielsa to the club and masterminded promotion to the Premier League.
On the fourth anniversary of his initial investment, Radrizzani ushered a statement on the future of the club and his time with Leeds thus far. "Yesterday marked the fourth anniversary of my initial investment in Leeds United," he said on Twitter.
"I want to thank all of those who have sent me so many amazing messages of support. I love this club and everyone who works so hard for it every day. Can't wait to make more memories together."
Sir Alex rallies against VAR
Sir Alex Ferguson used an example from Leeds' action this season to brandish VAR "a bloody disaster" when speaking with the Daily Mail.
In Leeds' 1-0 win over Burnley, Ashley Barnes' equaliser was ruled out when Ben Mee was adjudged to have fouled Illan Meslier in the build-up.
However, because referee Rob Jones had already blown for a free-kick to Leeds, VAR could not be used in the decision, upsetting Sean Dyche after the final whistle.
And Ferguson agrees with the Burnley manager. "It’s a bloody disaster," he said. "I watched the Leeds versus Burnley game the other week — Burnley had a goal disallowed when their own player was fouled by the goalkeeper. Unbelievable."
