Leeds United news as Ian Wright enters relegation debate, Marcelo Bielsa's aggression displayed

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Wednesday, January 20.

Wright issues relegation warning

Ian Wright has issued a relegation warning to Leeds United after their recent struggles in the Premier League.

Leeds have now lost their last three games in all competitions and failed to score in each of them.

While most pundits have put Leeds' poor form down to a blip, suggesting that they are not under threat of relegation, Wright believes that Marcelo Bielsa's side must be careful.

Does no goals in three games worry Bielsa?

"Leeds, Wolves and Newcastle – if I’m their fans at the moment I think I’m feeling nervy,” he told the Wrighty's House Podcast.

"Fulham, for me, will probably be feeling, with the way they are playing, they look like a problem and a danger. They will feel like they can get out of that.

"I worry for Wolves and Newcastle. And I think Leeds need to get back to the Leeds of the start of the season."

Bielsa's aggressive tactics

Bielsa is renowned for his aggressive tactics. He implements a high-pressing approach that his players must unilaterally buy into.

And now there is proof of the Argentinian's demanding way of playing.

As Joe Donnohue writes for Leeds Live, the Whites produce more pressures per 100 touches of the opposition than any other team in the top-five European leagues.

In fact, as the following data visualisation shows, they are streets ahead of any other team in Europe.

Bielsa's approach has been challenged by pundits recently, but he will not change his style.

Lascelles sends message

Jamaal Lascelles has sent a rallying cry to his Newcastle United teammates ahead of their match against Leeds next week.

Newcastle are in disastrous form, having lost 1-0 to bottom side Sheffield United last week and suffered a 3-0 defeat by Arsenal on Monday.

On Tuesday, they host Leeds, and Lascelles wants to see his teammates put right their recent poor performances.

"Of course it is tough," he said. "We are annoyed at ourselves. We are disappointed with the situation we are in.

"The first half at Arsenal was all right, the second half was terrible and we have to look at ourselves as players.

"I have been in a lot of tough situations. It is about how you deal with them.

"We have the players to do it. We have to stick together with the manager and staff and players and try to do the right things."
