Leeds United news as Gjanni Alioski sums up dressing room reaction to Crawley Town defeat

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Sunday 10th January.

Alioski on the dressing room reaction to Crawley defeat

Leeds United are licking their wounds after suffering another embarrassing FA Cup defeat.

For the seventh time in nine FA Cup ties, Leeds have lost to lower league opposition, with League Two Crawley Town inflicting a 3-0 defeat on Marcelo Bielsa's lacklustre side.

Following the defeat at the Boradfield Stadium, Gjanni Alioski spoke to the BBC.

“I can’t find my words now because we are really disappointed. It’s not this that we wanted," he said.

Beren Cross on Crawley 3-0 Leeds

“I am really sad, because we took the game really seriously. We wanted to win here and go one round more. I’m disappointed, it’s not this that we wanted.

“Crawley played the game of their life, congratulations to them, to beat us 3-0 I can’t believe it, but it has happened."

The North Macedonian international was also asked about Marcelo Bielsa's reaction in the full-time dressing room.

“It’s not important for the coach to tell us, every player needs to know what this means, we lost 3-0.

“Of course he is sad, the players are sad, we are disappointed with the result from the game.”

Player ratings

A very average first-half performance gave way to a dreadful second half showing, as a triple half-time substitution backfired for Bielsa.

As you would expect, Beren Cross' player ratings make grim reading for a number of Whites players, not least Kiko Casilla who's error for the second goal was perhaps the pivotal moment of the tie.

Bielsa's reaction

Marcelo Bielsa was not able to undergo his usual post-match press conference owing to a lack of facilities at the League Two side's Broadfield Stadium, but did speak to the BBC following the defeat.

"We couldn't unbalance them when we attacked. We had the ball for a long period of time but we couldn't do much with it," he said.

"In the first half it was a first half where we played better than the opponent and the game was played how we wanted it to be played, even if we didn't create much danger. And in the second half, the game was played how the opponents wanted to play and they did create danger to deserve the goals that they scored."

Bielsa and Leeds' attention will now shift to Saturday's Premier League clash against Brighton at Elland Road.
