Leeds United news as Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher clash over Whites' transfer business

Here are the latest Leeds United headlines for Tuesday, August 9.

Pundits clash over Leeds' transfer business

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have clashed over Leeds' transfer business. The Whites have been busy in the market this summer, with more arrivals expected at Elland Road.

Leeds lost key personnel in the form of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, but Jesse Marsch has brought in six fresh faces - four of which made their debuts against Wolves on Saturday. Speaking on the Football Daily YouTube channel, Neville and Carragher were grading every Premier League club's transfer business from A to E, with the pair eventually agreeing on a grading of D for Leeds.

"You've got to put them C- or D," said Neville.

Carragher replied: "C!? They've lost their two best players."

"I know, but there was nothing they could do about it," said Neville.

"I know, but where they are right now - they've not had a great window," the former Liverpool defender claimed. "They've brought in a lot of players who Jesse Marsch knows."

Marsch praised for 'standing his ground'

Jesse Marsch has been praised for 'standing his ground' in his touchline altercation with Bruno Lage after Leeds United defeated Wolves 2-1 at Elland Road.

Marsch was quick to play down the incident, but Lage claimed the American said something out of order. The Whites came from behind to win in an entertaining affair in Yorkshire, with a goal from Rodrigo and an own-goal from Rayan Ait-Nouri cancelling out Daniel Podence's early strike.

On the The 2 Robbies podcast, Robbie Earle said it was good to see Marsch 'holding his own' in the full-time altercation.

Whites break 20-year-old stat

Leeds United have broken a 20-year-old stat that supporters will be thrilled to see. For the first time since 2002, Leeds sit above both Manchester United and Liverpool in the league table.

A tweet from @lufcstats confirmed that this is the first time Leeds have been above the two North West clubs in two decades. The Premier League table is still in it's infancy, with every team having only played one game, but the Whites are seventh in the table after the first round of matches.

The Whites were last above both Manchester United and Liverpool on September 14, 2002. Leeds defeated the Red Devils 1-0 at Elland Road that day, with Harry Kewell heading home the winner.
