Leeds United news as Gareth Southgate issues glowing Kalvin Phillips England verdict

Here are today's Leeds United morning headlines on Wednesday, June 23.

Southgate's Phillips verdict

Kalvin Phillips was handed third consecutive start for England last night and played all 90 minutes in the 1-0 win over the Czech Republic which ensured the Three Lions finished as Group D winners.

The Leeds United midfielder is the only England outfielder to play all 270 minutes of the tournament so far and Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate praised his performance following the victory, outlining how he is now taking his club form onto the international stage.

"We wanted to get Jordan [Henderson] 45 minutes so that was the decision and it also allowed us to play Kalvin more positionally," he said.

"I thought he was excellent, really good. I like him in that role, the defensive pivot.

"His use of the ball was good, he found the right spaces to go and recieve, he played it as he plays it for Leeds. We know how comfortable he is in that role. He showed again how well he's adapted to international football."

Southgate made four changes to his starting line-up last night, with Jack Grealish and Buyako Saka both getting their first starts of the season.
