Leeds United news as Fulham 'join interested parties' for Whites striker Rodrigo

A look at the latest Leeds United headlines this morning on Saturday, 8 July.

Fulham 'join interested parties' for Leeds United striker Rodrigo

Football Insider claims Fulham are the latest club to register an interest in Leeds United striker Rodrigo. The Whites forward scored 15 goals and two assists across 35 appearances in all competitions - his best return in a Leeds shirt.

The 32-year-old is yet to return to Thorp Arch and touch base with Daniel Farke and his squad after his international commitments this summer. Rodrigo has a reported £3million relegation release clause in his contract which has put a number of European clubs on high alert.

The Spanish striker is approaching the final year of his contract but has wages reportedly in the region of £100,000 per week, which could prove a stumbling block for the Cottagers, according to the report. It adds that Marco Silva's side would be keen on offloading forwards Carlos Vinicius and Rodrigo Muniz in a bid to sign the forward.

Leeds United's three weeks of unseen transfer plotting is about to be unleashed on the window

Silence on the transfers-in-front has been masked by Leeds United’s protracted takeover and manager search. The appointment of Nick Hammond as interim football advisor a fraction over three weeks ago also bought them some time.

The void created by Victor Orta’s departure left Angus Kinnear picking up the transfer pieces as United’s relegation was sealed at the end of May. In the two-and-a-half weeks between the drop and Hammond’s appointment, anxiety was already growing about inactivity and disorganisation in a critical transfer window for Leeds.

With no clarity on the future direction of the boardroom, the dugout or Orta’s successor, it was natural to assume Leeds were missing out on deals and opportunities. There was only so much Kinnear could do as the man keeping the club afloat between administrations.

Hammond’s appointment at least put another pair of hands on the tiller, someone who could quickly come in and start taking those calls bombarding Kinnear’s phone. A transfer specialist with a very recent track record of success on short-term deals after parachuting in.

Jake Bidwell insight into Freddie Woodman shows key characteristics he’d bring to Leeds United

Former Swansea City defender Jake Bidwell believes Preston North End goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is read to test himself in the Premier League. The former Newcastle United shot stopper has been linked with a move to Leeds United in the past and remains a possibility for Daniel Farke as he looks to start his rebuild at Elland Road.

Woodman has a brilliant reputation in the Championship and at just 26-years-old, his best years are some way ahead of him. There had been plenty of talk tipping the Magpies academy graduate to become the number one at St. James' Park, but first-team opportunities were limited.

He had seven loan spells away from Newcastle during his eight year senior spell at the club and would make four starts for the club - coinciding with the Magpies' worst start to a Premier League season. Woodman didn't do himself a disservice in those games, but would move to Preston North End at the start of the 2022 campaign, where he'd go on to be the number one.

However, it was his loan spell at Swansea, where he played alongside Bidwell, that really thrust him into the spotlight. Woodman helped the Swans reach back-to-back Championship play-offs and his 20 clean sheets in 2020-21 saw him win the league's Golden Glove award.

Leeds United return to social media sass with first Threads post taking aim at opposition fans

Leeds United have made a sassy start to life on new social media platform Threads poking fun at opposition fans. Whites' supporters will remember the 2018-19 campaign all too fondly as the club Twitter account took a number of high profile scalps in a war with words.

Leeds' Twitter account as involved in a spat with One Direction's Niall Horan who supports Derby County. It was a memorable year for both sides with Marcelo Bielsa's infamous Spygate dominating headlines and the two clubs clashed in the play-off semi-final.

Frank Lampard's side were victors in a two legged clash with Leeds, but were beaten in the play-off final with the Leeds official Twitter account having the last laugh. Leeds struck on the final whistle of the Championship play-off final, after Frank Lampard's side suffered a 2-1 defeat that condemned them to another year in the second tier.

Replying to Horan's previous tweet which said: "Between @dcfcofficial and I we’ve played at Wembley more times in the last 12 years than you lot," Leeds were able to deliver the knockout blow. They said: "Hopefully you performed better than @dcfcofficial! See you next season!"
