Leeds United news as Freddie Woodman medical halted after Newcastle United injury scare

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Wednesday, July 14.

Woodman underwent Bournemouth medical

Early today, we brought you news that Newcastle United had rejected a 'cash bid' from Freddie Woodman.

Our colleagues in the North East, The Chronicle, reported that the Whites saw an offer turned down for Woodman.

It now transpires that Woodman has already undergone a medical at Championship side Bournemouth but a deal has been halted by an injury scare to Martin Dubravka, which could require surgery and see him miss the start of the season.

Woodman started pre-season with Steve Bruce's side but hasn't featured in any of the images or videos released by the club, fuelling speculation he could leave. The 24-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan at Swansea City.

Peter Risdale elected onto EFL board

Former Leeds United chairman Peter Risdale has been elected onto the English Football League board after a widespread vote.

The 69-year-old is now an advisor to the owner at Preston North End despite his checkered past at Elland Road.

Risdale famously oversaw Leeds' financial collapse in the early 2000s but has repaired his reputation in football circles.

So much so, The Athletic report that Risdale is a huge advocate of EFL chairman Rick Parry's efforts to improve the sustainability of the football pyramid by altering the spending limits allowed.

The irony, eh?

Leeds shopping list clear

Leeds United have ticked off two of their biggest summer transfer priorities so far.

It was the world's worst secret that a new left-back was top of Victor Orta's shopping list even before the exit of Ezgjan Alioski.

The North Macedonian's departure only further accelerated plans to sign Junior Firpo, a steal at £13million from Barcelona.

Leeds ' recruitment team have made a habit of targeting undervalued players with high sell-on potential and the 25-year-old offers the attributes Marcelo Bielsa demands from his full-backs.

Making Jack Harrison 's move from Manchester City permanent was a formality but at £11million, he's another player that could make Leeds a handsome profit should he leave Elland Road.

After a busy week, the transfer rumour mill is speculation where the club will move next to strengthen their armoury.
