Leeds United news as former Whites midfielder Ronaldo Vieira linked with Yorkshire return

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Friday, July 16.

Ronaldo Vieira linked with Yorkshire return

Former Leeds United midfielder Ronaldo Vieira has been linked with a return to these shores with Sheffield United.

The 22-year-old left Leeds in the summer of 2018 after two seasons of regular first-team football at Elland Road which saw him earn England under-21 honours.

Shortly after Marcelo Bielsa's arrival, Vieira completed a move to Serie A side Sampdoria. He spent last season on loan at Hellas Verona, but injury restricted him to just five appearances.

Now, The Athletic report that he has been offered to a number of clubs, including Sheffield United following their relegation to the Championship last season.

Vieira's family remain in Yorkshire and the midfielder has two seasons left on his deal with Sampdoria.

Villa urged to copy Leeds approach

Leeds United are the new benchmark for Premier League teams when it comes to distance covered, sprints and pressing intensity.

Unsurprisingly, the team ranked highest across the league, and likely across Europe's major divisions, for the furthest distance covered on average per game.

It was not out of the ordinary to see Leeds players covering 11-12 kilometres per match, as they simply outran their opposite numbers, particularly in the latter stages of games.

Aston Villa were at the other end of that schedule and now they are being urged to copy the Bielsa blueprint.

Leeds using revolutionary transfer app

Leeds United are using an app described by its founder as 'Tinder for football transfers' in their hunt for new signings.

Leeds are one of around 50 clubs from 10 countries using the app in hoping of finding a perfect match, as reported by Raphael Honigstein of The Athletic.

The app, named '11TransFAIR', was launched by former Germany international Rene Adler, 36.

It aims to match players - who create their own profiles - up with clubs that suit them, while certain demands and preferences can be registered, such as preferred league, style of play and wages.

Leeds' Director of Football Victor Orta told The Athletic : “11TransFAIR has a very interesting approach.

“We're always open to new and innovative ideas. It will be interesting to see how the platform develops over the next months and years.”
