Leeds United news as former Whites defender hails Crysencio Summerville's improvement

A look at the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Thursday, March 30.

Former Leeds United defender hails Summerville's improvement

Former Leeds United defender Tony Dorigo has hailed Crysencio Summerville's improvement this season after asserting himself on the Whites first-team. The Dutch youth international was on the fringes of the first-team set-up last season but has scored important goals this season, including the winner against Liverpool at Anfield.

“I like the look of Summerville this season. He has such good composure and confidence on the ball. A lot of players in tight areas don’t like to play quickly, or their composure doesn’t allow them to, but Summerville is very happy to.

“Great skill. I’ve heard lots of good stories in training. People last year were saying, ‘wow, this kid has great ability,’ and he hadn’t quite transferred that onto the pitch. But this season, we’re seeing it in the first team,” Dorigo told his website.

Steve McManaman on 'nonsense' rumours on Leeds United's Wilfried Gnonto amid Man City reports

Former Premier League midfielder and pundit Steve McManaman believes that rumours claiming Wilfried Gnonto leaving Leeds United for Manchester City 'make no sense' as he'd never join the Citizens.

Recent rumours have linked the Italian with a move to play under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium after his impressive debut season in the Premier League.

However, McManaman can't ever see a move like that happening in the near future, highlighting the abundance of wingers City already have as a key factor.

Nottingham Forest hit with major injury blow ahead of Leeds United clash and relegation run-in

Steve Cooper has revealed Nottingham Forest forward Chris Wood will miss the rest of the season due to injury.

Wood, who previously played for Leeds United, only joined Forest from Newcastle United during the January transfer window.

He picked up a thigh injury in the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, and despite heading out on international duty with New Zealand, did not feature in their two friendlies against China.

Leeds United's biggest winners and losers over the international break

Leeds United fans will finally get a return to normality as the Whites travel down to the Emirates Stadium to face league leaders Arsenal this weekend as Premier League football gets underway again following the international break.

Over the past two weeks, there have been Leeds stars that have played throughout senior and youth levels for numerous different nations.

And while others have triumphed in the best possible way, others won't come back to Elland Road as happy after suffering injuries.

Liverpool ace hails Leeds United 'main man' as Javi Gracia could hand him opportunity vs Arsenal

Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson's praise of Leeds United defender Liam Cooper while on international duty for Scotland could well remind Javi Gracia of the "important" role the Spaniard said the centre-back still has to play this season, starting with Saturday's game against Arsenal.

Cooper played the final 15 minutes of Scotland's 2-0 win over Spain and helped his side see out a historic win against the European giants. Replacing Kieran Tierney - who is now an injury doubt for Arsenal - the Leeds man looked calm and composed during his brief cameo.

On and off the pitch, Cooper's influence in both his club and national side can be felt, with Tuesday night's victory over Spain causing Liverpool's Robertson to hail the Whites skipper as "the main man" on his social media after the full-time whistle blew.

Leeds United's Max Wober on early career struggles amid crucial lessons learned at Ajax and Sevilla

Max Wober has admitted that he struggled leaving Austria for Amsterdam at the age of 19, but learned crucial lessons during his spells at Ajax and Sevilla.

The Austrian international penned a four-year deal with Ajax in 2017 and featured regularly during his debut season under Erik ten Hag. However, Ten Hag soon settled on a defensive partnership of Matthijs de Ligt and Daley Blind, while Wober saw his game time significantly reduced.

He joined Sevilla on loan in January 2019 but had his season ended prematurely due to a torn meniscus, and Wober has opened up on the difficulties he faced during that period.

Leeds United legend Marcelo Bielsa 'very close' to becoming Uruguay manager

Former Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa is reportedly 'very close' to becoming the new manager of the Uruguayan national team.

That is according to Argentinian outlet TyC Sports (via Marca), who have reported that the 67-year-old is on the verge of succeeding Diego Alonso.

Alonso left his post after less than a year in charge following Uruguay's disappointing group stage exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
