Operating losses
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has revealed the scale of Leeds United's investment during the 2019/20 campaign in order to secure promotion.
Maguire used a handy bar chart to show that Leeds' £66 million operating loss from July 1, 2019 to July 30, 2020 - a purposely unusual 13-month accounting period to cater for games played in July 2020 - was the second-highest in the Championship.
Only fellow promoted side Fulham recorded a larger operating loss, at £73 million, meanwhile West Bromwich Albion who finished in second and were also promoted, ranked fourth for their losses.
This lays bare once more the financial risk clubs must take to launch a bid to win promotion to the Premier League.
Phillips' vote of confidence
Kalvin Phillips is expected to continue in his role at the heart of England's midfield this evening as the Three Lions take on Denmark at Wembley Stadium.
The UEFA EURO 2020 semi-final is set to host 60,000 supporters for the right to play Italy in the competition's showpiece finale on July 11.
The Athletic reported that Gareth Southgate plans to make just a single change to his starting XI that beat Ukraine by four goals to nil.
That switch concerns Bukayo Saka, who is tipped to replace Jadon Sancho, meaning Kalvin Phillips has done enough to prove to Gareth Southgate that he deserves another start in the England engine room.
