Leeds United news as ex-White joins seventh tier side, full injury list ahead of Everton clash

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Monday, August 29.

Ex-Leeds midfielder joins Macclesfield

Former Leeds United midfielder Luke Murphy has joined his hometown club Macclesfield FC in the seventh tier of the English footballing pyramid. As a phoenix club of the former Macclesfield Town, the Silkmen have attracted a number of other high profile names such as Zeki Fryers, Neil Danns and Nicky Maynard.

Murphy arrived at Elland Road from Crewe Alexandra in June 2013 after being named in the PFA League One Team of the Year. He played 111 times in all competitions for the Whites but lost his place once Garry Monk took over in 2016.

He spent one-and-a-half seasons on loan at Championship outfit Burton Albion before joining Bolton Wanderers upon the expiration of his Leeds contract. Murphy suffered back-to-back relegations as the Trotters plummeted into the fourth tier for the first time since 1988.

Murphy was released by Bolton following their relegation from League One in 2020 and he rejoined his former club Crewe Alexandra. The midfielder spent two seasons with the Railwaymen but was once again released following their relegation to League Two last term.

Jesse Marsch will be demanding a response from his players following the defeat in Sussex, but Tuesday night's opponents are winless in their opening four Premier League fixtures.

Pick your Leeds XI to face Everton

Leeds United face Everton under the lights at Elland Road on Tuesday evening, looking to return to winning ways following their 1-0 defeat at Brighton. A goal from Pascal Gross condemned the Whites to their first defeat of the season.

Jesse Marsch's side welcome Everton to Yorkshire for a televised game, with Frank Lampard's team winless in their first four league games, with just two points accumulated in total. The Toffees were one of Leeds' main rivals in the battle to avoid relegation to the Championship last season - and both sides will be hoping for a more comfortable campaign this time.

Leeds named an unchanged team from the side that thrashed Chelsea 3-0 for their visit to Sussex, but could that change on Tuesday night?
