Leeds United news as deal 'close' and Lewis O'Brien's transfer admission

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Saturday, November 20.

Leeds 'agree' Joseph deal

Leeds have agreed a fee with Espanyol to sign attacker Mateo Joseph Fernandez in January, according to Radio Futbol reporter Diego Balbontin.

Leeds have been linked with a move for Joseph for a number of months now and this report claims he will arrive in January despite interest elsewhere from Barcelona and Manchester City.

The 18-year-old is likely to go straight into the Under-23s side if a deal goes through and provide an exciting alternative option to the likes of Joe Gelhardt, who is now very much part of the first team picture.

O’Brien discusses Leeds distraction

Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien has admitted that speculation linking him with a move to Leeds in the summer was a distraction.

O’Brien was reportedly a major target for the Whites in the window, but a move never materialised due to Leeds’ reluctance to meet the asking price.

Instead, the 23-year-old put pen to paper on a new deal in September and via quotes from Yorkshire Live, he is happy that he was able to get his future sorted.

He said: “You think it’s easy to block out and that you’re not thinking about it but it’s always there in the back of your head every day – you’ll see something or someone, or one of your friends or family is messaging you about something.

“But personally I tried to block it out as much as I could and just concentrate on my football, which I do with anything. No matter what’s happening in life, what’s going on, I just try and focus on my personal game and try to play the best for the team that I possibly can.

“It was a massive weight off my shoulders when I signed my new contract. In the interview I did then I did go into further detail about how I felt about it and that it was the right step in my career. It was a massive weight off my shoulders and just allows me to play freely again for Huddersfield.”

Leeds predicted XI vs Spurs

Leeds will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to four matches when they make the trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Whites put in arguably their strongest performance of the season before the international break against Leicester City and with Junior Firpo now back in contention, Marcelo Bielsa has a selection dilemma on his hands.

Pascal Struijk performed excellently filling in at left back and therefore could keep his place, while elsewhere Bielsa could be tempted to drop one of Daniel James or Jack Harrison in favour of Mateusz Klich.

Leeds Live reporter Beren Cross has delivered his verdict on how he thinks the Whites will set up in North London.

Predicted line-up (4-1-4-1): Illan Meslier; Stuart Dallas, Diego Llorente, Liam Cooper, Pascal Struijk; Kalvin Phillips; Raphinha, Adam Forshaw, Rodrigo, Jack Harrison; Daniel James.
