Leeds United news as Jermaine Beckford delivers glowing Daniel James verdict
Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Thursday, October 7.
Beckford impressed by James
The £25m Deadline Day signing of Dan James was one that excited Leeds supporters because of the club’s need for a new winger.
After a tough first few games, the Wales international was able to show what he will bring to the team in the 1-0 win against Watford.
Former Whites striker Jermaine Beckford was full of praise for the pint-sized wideman on the most recent episode of the Official Leeds United Podcast.
“Danny James, can I just take my hat off to him,” he said. “What a player he’s turning out to be.
“Bags of energy, bags of enthusiasm. He just doesn’t stop running, makes great movements, makes great runs, very positive. And I’m a big fan.”
Mills makes outlandish Phillips claim
After a brilliant debut campaign in the Premier League as well as his performances at Euro 2020 for England, Kalvin Phillips has unsurprisingly been linked with moves to some of Europe’s most elite clubs.
The most recent of those rumours reported that Manchester United were interested in bringing him to Old Trafford.
However, the history between the two clubs immediately made a deal extremely unlikely, especially considering Phillips’ loyalties to his boyhood club.
Ex-Leeds defender Danny Mills claimed that the 25-year-old would be silly to not even consider the move across the Pennines.
"I would think if he had other options, he would go elsewhere," he told Football Insider.
"Rio Ferdinand went, but Rio was only at Leeds for a season. Alan Smith went and I think the fans understood it but didn’t particularly like it and some will never forgive him for that.
"I understand that because there will always be a bitter rivalry between the two."
"Kalvin Phillips has one career, one shot at it. Stepping away from the rivalries, if he was to leave and that was an option, you have to look at it. You can’t just ignore it because of loyalties and growing up as a Leeds fan.
"It’s a very, very short career. As hard as it might be and he’d take some stick for it, you’d have to look at it and think about it seriously."

Phillips continues to shine
Since Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival in West Yorkshire, Phillips has gone from strength to strength almost on a weekly basis.
Following his summer involvement with the Three Lions, he was unavailable for the first couple of Premier League games but he has looked right at home in the midfield ever since.
In our player ratings for the season so far, he was the highest rated Leeds player as he earned an 8/10 from Beren Cross.
There were a few Whites players considered slightly behind Phillips in terms of their performances this term with Raphinha, Illan Meslier and Jamie Shackleton all receiving 7/10.
