Leeds United news as Brentford boss Thomas Frank makes 'cup final' vow ahead of Whites clash

Here are your morning Leeds United headlines on Tuesday, May 17.

Thomas Frank makes 'cup final' vow

Leeds United go to Brentford on the final day of the Premier League season, hoping to secure their Premier League status for another season. The Whites won't know whether they will enter the day with their fate in their own hands, until Burnley play Aston Villa on Thursday night. Should the Clarets lose, Leeds will know they only have to match Burnley's result on the final day to stay up.

However, Brentford manager Thomas Frank has stated that his side will be treating the game as a 'cup final' despite knowing their safety is already secured. Many fans might presume that is due to previous gripes between Leeds and the Bees but Frank stated that every chance to finish a place higher in the Premier League is important to a club like Brentford, playing their first season in the division.

"We will put our very best team out there - it's so important to understand we need to do our very best to win. It is nothing about Everton, Burnley or Leeds and I know in my press conference I will get a lot of questions between the story about me and 'so-called' Leeds fans and a video, but there is no story there from my perspective.

"Everyone will do our best to try and win on Sunday, and if Brentford can finish top 10, that's remarkable. As far as I know, there is a fair quid to gain if you finish higher, for the Club. It's very simple; maybe after 10 years in the Premier League you don't care if you finish 11th or 9th but for us, every game is a cup final."

Jamie Carragher hails composure of Leeds equaliser

Leeds' stoppage time equaliser against Brighton was a subject of discussion on last night's Monday Night Football as Jamie Carragher hailed Joe Gelhardt's individual skill, whilst also noting the difference in the team, after they had fallen apart in recent games. Leeds had been trailing in both their last two matches but rather than staying in the game and giving themselves a chance to get back into it, they had seen straight red cards given to Luke Ayling and Daniel James.

Carragher said : "There’s always going to be that madness 92nd minute, you need a goal but two or three times within this move, not panicking means they get a point from this game. Llorente and Struijk, they’re your two deepest players. The thing that impressed me here, how many times in games I see the centre-back come in and smash that and the crowd are shouting shoot, it’s the worst thing, I get so wound up even if I’m not watching my own team, they keep the ball moving, shows great composure.

"Gelhardt on the far side, poor touch, if uncomposed he’s lashing that across goal, weak foot, he shows the composure this skill is absolutely fantastic. In this position, you’re thinking panic but no composure and the skill is fantastic, people are thinking ‘have a shot’, no, just dinks it to the back post and who knows how vital that’ll be."

Jesse Marsch dodges Marcelo Bielsa pitfall with Leeds United post-match tactic

Since his appointment as Leeds manager, Jesse Marsch has regularly spoken to the media and has generally been unafraid to say what he believes to be right. Beren Cross noted a change in that in the final home game of Leeds' season, as the American manager dodged a question about Elland Road chanting for ex-manager Marcelo Bielsa, as it looked like the Whites' chances were slipping away.

Cross wrote: "They are topics he could have spoken about without hearing the chants themselves, but after weeks of bright and bold interviews full of the spirited messages at a challenging time, Marsch seems to be moderating his answers. The American is picking his battles and choosing when to plough into the longer, detailed answers we have benefited from since his arrival."
