Leeds United news as Ben White stance urged with Raphinha, Marathe speaks on Elland Road works

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Wednesday, February 10.

Leeds should emulate Brighton's Ben White stance

Leeds United have been urged to emulate Brighton's stance on Ben White with Raphinha this summer.

After returning to Brighton following his hugely impressive loan spell with Leeds in the Championship, White was linked with a host of top Premier League clubs.

Brighton, though, held firm and kept the young centre-back, and now Paul Robinson believes that Leeds should take the same approach with Raphinha.

"When you look at him in comparison to all the other transfers from other clubs, Raphinha is the bargain of the season," he told MOT Leeds News. "It’s not taken him any time at all to settle in. Bielsa didn’t play him straight away, he gave him a bit of time to find his feet, but since he’s come into the side he looks absolutely sensational.

Blood Red: Jamie Carragher compares Raphinha to two Liverpool stars amid transfer links

"Ball retention, his ability to see passes, his eye for goal, he really is the all-round attacking midfielder. He’s an outstanding signing for Leeds.

"The idea for Leeds this season is to stay in the Premier League and they’ve done that at a canter. They’ve done amazingly well this season. Next season they’ll look to strengthen and you’d like to see the new investment from the 49ers used on and off the field.

"You certainly don’t want your best player to be leaving but interest from big clubs comes with the territory. Other teams will want Raphinha but Leeds have to take the stance Brighton did with Ben White.

"They knew how important he was. You’re not going to get anywhere by selling your best players.

"Leeds do not need to be selling their best player at the moment."

Jermaine Beckford praises "disgusting" Raphinha

Jermaine Beckford heralded the "disgusting" Raphinha after his outrageous piece of skill left Gary Cahill scrambling in Monday's 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Raphinha was excellent throughout the match, but the one moment that caught everyone's eye was his spin and nutmeg on Cahill that left the Palace defender helpless but to haul him to the floor just outside the penalty area.

And Beckford did not disagree.

"This bit of trickery here on Gary Cahill, oh my word, disgusting - I don't think that should be allowed, if I'm honest," he said on Sky Sports.

"Gary Cahill made the right decision obviously to bring him down before he got inside the box, but that just summed up his performance, Raphinha, he was lethal.

"His first touch is unbelievable, the outside of his left foot while he's running as well.

"The kid has everything, he has the world at his feet - what an exciting player he is - and for £17m as well, that is some deal, honestly."

Paraag Marathe on Elland Road renovation

Paraag Marathe has alluded to the fact he would be hesitant to completely rebuild Elland Road as Daniel Levy and Tottenham Hotspur did with White Hart Lane.

In an interview with the Telegraph, Marathe explained that there is a line to be found between keeping up with the modern infrastructure and remaining true to a club's tradition and heritage.

"One thing that is very different in American sport and English football is clubs belong to the communities," he explained.

"Loyalty depending on where you were born. That’s a different degree of passion than we have here in the USA.

"We want to modernise the stadium, we want to enhance the match-day experience, but we are not going to do that compromising the aura and history of that 100-year-old ground.

"We do not want to get involved so that our input makes the club sterile. That defeats the purpose of what makes the club special. Leeds are part of my family now."
