Leeds United news as Ben White reflects on Marcelo Bielsa's 'murderball' regime

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Monday, February 22.

Ben White reflects on 'unique' Leeds United training

Former Leeds United loan man Ben White has been looking back at his time at Leeds United in an interview with The Times.

One subject which comes up is Marcelo Bielsa's murderball training session, something White's Brighton side do not replicate.

"It's so tough," he saids. "They do six-minute slots, so the starting XI will stay on for six sessions of six minutes, but the other team would be rotated and fresh coming on and running us ragged, really. It was about the intensity and playing under fatigue, to get us fit.

"It's very unique."

Does Bielsa think Cooper is adapting well to the Premier League?

White also discussed his spectacular volleyed goal against Charlton in his final match for the club at the end of last season.

"That's an area of my game I need to improve, to get on the scoresheet a bit more.

"That goal, I'm not sure really how I've done it. You won't see one of them for a while. I was actually in the wrong position. I should have been in the box to score a header, but luckily it went in, so I didn't get into any trouble."

Dean Smith gives Grealish update

Next weekend's opponents Aston Villa have been handed a huge injury blow with Jack Grealish suffering a leg problem that kept him out of their defeat at home to Leicester City yesterday.

Villa visit Elland Road on Saturday and boss Dean Smith says he an 'eternal optimist' regarding injuries and hopes that his skipper and talisman will be available.

Is Shackleton the answer to Leeds' Kalvin Phillips problem?

Kalvin Phillips' absence has clearly hurt Leeds United when he has not been available this season, winning once and losing five times when he has been absent through various injuries.

Jamie Shackleton started in midfield against Wolves on Friday evening and although they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat, he put in an encouraging performance.

Joe Donnohue has taken a closer look at how Shackleton performed here.

Next up for Leeds is a clash against Southampton tomorrow night, with Bielsa set to give an update on Phillips' injury status in his Monday lunchtime press conference.
