Leeds United news as Andrea Radrizzani linked with Marcelo Bielsa successor in Italian media

Roma manager linked to Leeds

Leeds United have made contact with Roma manager Paulo Fonseca with a view to making him Marcelo Bielsa’s successor if the Argentine departs Elland Road, according to one Italian journalist.

Gianluigi Longari of Sportitalia said the Whites were one of several clubs to make tentative enquiries about the outgoing Rome boss.

Napoli, Crystal Palace and Nice are also credited with an interest in the 48-year-old, who was largely unheralded as a player, but gone on to coach Porto, Braga and Shakhtar Donetsk before arriving in the Italy capital.

Andrea Radrizzani spoke recently about his high hopes for striking a deal with Bielsa before the current campaign ends in West Yorkshire.

Bielsa has made it clear he does not wish to discuss his contract with the media until the campaign is out of the way.

Gary Lineker was baffled by what Ezgjan Alioski did to concede a penalty for Leeds United's 2-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

The Whites fell behind after 15 minutes through Pascal Gross's penalty after Alioski had clumsily dragged Danny Welbeck to the ground following a lunging tackle.

Alioski was replaced at half-time after his first-half performance, which saw Brighton target him as a weakness on the left side of defence.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Lineker admitted he had been left confused by Alioski's decision to put in such a clumsy tackle on Welbeck in the penalty area.

National media slam 'damningly average' Leeds United in Brighton loss

Despite enjoying plenty of possession, the Whites struggled to create many chances, with Patrick Bamford cutting an isolated figure up front.

By contrast, Brighton were profligate and could have won by more on a better day in front of goal.

Here is what the national media made of the game.

'Well below their dynamic best'

The PA's report said: "Danny Welbeck netted a sublime goal as Brighton took a significant step towards Premier League survival by ending Leeds’ six-game unbeaten run with a deserved 2-0 win.
