Leeds United news as Alioski sends message and Southgate explains selection amid Phillips fear

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines on Saturday, July 3, 2021.

Alioski's message to Dallas

Ezgjan Alioski has been quiet of late since his North Macedonia team departed the European Championships.

The defender's Leeds United contract ended three days ago without comment as speculation grows he is preparing a move to Turkey after four seasons at Elland Road.

While Leeds are close to finalising a deal for Barcelona's Junior Firpo, the Whites have a contract offer on the table for Alioski, but it remains one which is unsigned and that looks like staying the case.

While Alioski hasn't committed his future to Leeds, that wasn't a problem for Stuart Dallas, who yesterday signed a new three-year deal at the club.

After taking to Instagram to thank the club, Marcelo Bielsa and the supporters, Alioski broke his silence to send his best wishes to Dallas.

Phillips won't be rested over Yellow Card fear

Gareth Southgate has four players walking a disciplinary tightrope against Ukraine but the England manager says getting to the Euro 2020 semi-final takes precedence over protecting players.

Harry Maguire, Kalvin Phillips, Declan Rice and Phil Foden are a booking away from being suspended for a potential semi-final clash against Denmark or the Czech Republic at Wembley on Wednesday.

Bookings are wiped after the quarter-final stage and Roma manager Jose Mourinho said the quartet should be rested against Ukraine on Saturday to avoid any suspension for the semi-final.

Asked if he would take up that advice, Southgate told talkSPORT: "We won't. We won't for that reason, anyway.

"We've been to three semi-finals in 60 years, so I don't think we're in a position as a nation to start resting players in a quarter-final stage because they might get another yellow card.

"I think it's different if there are physical concerns but, in terms of yellow cards, we've got to play the game. What are we saving them for?

"We've got to be good enough to get to a semi-final and if for one minute we take our eye off of that moment we're in now and think about what might happen in the future then we're in trouble.

"I totally understand the strategic part of what he's saying but it's not a route we will be going."

Bielsa's final words to Pablo

Marcelo Bielsa ended his final Leeds United tribute to Gaetano Berardi and Pablo Hernandez by holding up Oliver Casey as the perfect combination of both club legends.

The unexpected story has been retold by Casey himself in an interview with LeedsLive after leaving Elland Road for Blackpool this week.

Casey cannot thank the head coach enough for what he has done for his short career in transforming his game and improving him immeasurably since 2018.

In recounting his final conversation with Bielsa, the 20-year-old went back to the final pre-match meeting of the season, before West Bromwich Albion visited Elland Road.
