Leeds United news as £7.4m transfer sales loss outlined

Here are the Leeds United evening headlines on Wednesday, March 3.

Whites player sales

Leeds have theoretically lost £7.41million on transfer sales in the last five years, according to BettingOdds.

The website have conducted a study where they've researched how much every Premier League club has received from player sales in comparison to their current value.

Leeds sit 10th out of the 20 top-flight clubs on the list, with a £7.41m 'loss' after generating £56.33m on the players they have sold.

In the current market, with the coronavirus pandemic taken into consideration, then the Whites would be able to sell these same players for almost an £8m profit from what they actually received.

Liverpool top the list, with the study finding that the Reds would have lost a whopping £107.16m if they sold those players in today's market.

Bottom of the pile are Arsenal, who could have got an extra £182.61m from player sales when compared to their value now.

Referee confirmed for West Ham clash

Mike Dean has been appointed as the referee for Leeds’ clash with West Ham United in just under a weeks’ time.

Dean is one of the most controversial officials in the Premier League, with a prolific red card record throughout his career as a top-flight referee.

The Hammers have had recent controversies with the 52-year-old following Tomas Soucek’s dubious sending off against Fulham, which was eventually rescinded.

Soucek was sent down the tunnel for an unintended elbow on striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and even though Dean consulted the pitch side monitor, the red card stood.

Dean has been the man in charge of just one Leeds game this season – the 1-1 draw with Manchester City at Elland Road earlier in the campaign.

Mills calls for Rodrigo improvement

Danny Mills has backed Rodrigo Moreno to improve in his second season at Leeds amid transfer links with Juventus.

Rodrigo became the Whites’ record signing last summer, but has slightly underwhelmed in his debut campaign at Elland Road.

The 29-year-old has been played in a slightly different position by Marcelo Bielsa, and coupled with injury problems, it’s not been an ideal start for the Spain international.

According to recent reports, Italian giants Juventus are chasing the Whites star, as they look to secure a swap deal for Douglas Costa.

However, ex-Leeds full-back Mills believes his former club will keep the forward and has backed him to come on stronger next season.

“I’d be surprised if they were to let him go this soon,” the ex-Manchester City defender said to Football Insider.

“That’s not how Bielsa works, he’s about bringing players in and improving them over the course of time. We’ve seen him have some good performances.

“We have to remember this has all happened through Covid which isn’t particularly easy for anybody or any football club and he’s had some injuries.

“Hopefully next season he’s more settled and the world starts to open up a little bit more.

“We can hope we don’t end up with a different player but a more improved player and that’s what I’m expecting.”
