Leeds United name Premier League duo in starting XI for Everton U23 fixture

Leeds United U23s are tasked with lifting themselves - and collective spirits - from the PL2 Division 1 relegation zone this evening.

Everton visit the LNER Community Stadium, aiming for a league double over the Whites following their 4-2 win in the reverse fixture back in October.

Leeds United will be buoyed somewhat by the inclusion of Sam Greenwood and Liam McCarron who takes their place in the U23s' starting line-up tonight.

U23s boss Mark Jackson is set to be without his captain Charlie Cresswell for the foreseeable future after it was revealed a teammate had landed on him in training, injuring his shoulder in the process.

Bielsa stated the teenage central defender faces a lengthy period of recovery.

He did add that Pascal Struijk, Daniel James and Patrick Bamford were all edging closer to a return, however.

In Jackson's starting XI tonight, he has named highly-regarded midfielder Lewis Bate, as well as recent Premier League debutants Sam Greenwood and Liam McCarron.

The duo came on in the closing stages of Leeds' 4-1 defeat to Arsenal at the weekend.

Given the injuries to several senior players, it was suspected that those who featured in the senior side last time out may well have been protected for the interests of the first-team.

Leeds United XI: Van den Heuvel (GK). Sutcliffe, Mullen, Moore, McCarron, Bate, Jenkins, Dean, Allen, McGurk, Greenwood

Subs: Klaesson, McKinstry, Kenneh, Gray, Carole.
