Leeds United morning headlines with defender poised for exit ahead of transfer deadline

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Wednesday, 14 October.

Bielsa sees managerial potential in squad

Everyone wants to be like Marcelo Bielsa in management - especially those who have played under him.

The Leeds boss was asked recently who he thought might be a candidate for the hot seat in the future and, despite not giving out names, he made it clear that he saw signs that some of his squad could do the job due to thinking about the game in a different way.

“I have an idea of the players that apart from playing also think about the game,” he said. “It's not indispensable to think about the game. You can play well without thinking.

“There are also players that are of such high quality they resolve situations just on their talent alone.

“Players who end up as managers are usually the ones who think about what they are going to do. And also they think about the game, not just what they have to do, but in a collective manner.

“Players usually don't like to be mentioned as future managers because it would suggest they are close to the end of their playing career, so I prefer not to comment.”

Five players set for exit before deadline day

The domestic transfer window closes on Friday and Leeds are likely to see more outgoings before then.

A look around the squad reveals five players who could depart on or before deadline day, among them a regular from last season in Barry Douglas.

Conor Shaughnessy is in the final year of his deal, as is Ouasim Bouy, who has yet to make a single appearance for Leeds.

Youngsters who haven’t made the step up yet could also be among those looking to gain regular experience in the lower leagues.

Two interested in out-of-favour left-back

As mentioned above, Douglas could be set for an exit before getting his chance to feature at the top level.

He hasn’t played in the Premier League so far and two clubs are keen on signing him for the rest of the season, say the Mail, with Blackburn Rovers progressing furthest in talks.

Watford are also in the running to sign him, with Douglas’ reputation as being able to provide crosses and set-pieces on a regular basis an attractive proposition in the second tier.
