Leeds United morning headlines: Whites tipped to seal promotion and Jean-Kevin Augustin verdict

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Tuesday, March 10.

Leeds tipped to seal promotion

Fresh data from FiveThirtyEight suggests that Leeds will do enough to clinch promotion back into the Premier League this season.

According to their most recent end of season probabilities, they have given the Whites a 98 per cent chance of sealing promotion, whilst they have also been given a 73 percent chance of winning the league title this season.

The latest data gives West Brom a likeliness of just 25 percent to win the title this season.

Why Leeds should not sign Augustin

Former Whites striker Noel Whelan believes that Marcelo Bielsa’s side should not sign Jean-Kevin Augustin on a permanent deal this season.

The French striker is yet to start for Leeds since arriving on loan from RB Leipzig, with part of his time at Elland Road disrupted by a hamstring injury.

Whelan has told Football Insider that Augustin is not capable of playing in the Premier League and should not be signed permanently in the summer, with Leeds expected to reach the top-flight at the end of this season.

Ian Poveda shines at Oakwell as Tyler Roberts struggles

Ian Poveda impressed in a strong Leeds Under-23s side that played Barnsley yesterday.

The winger, who arrived from Manchester City in January, provided an assist in the second half during the 1-1 draw in what was a rather quiet Yorkshire derby at Oakwell.

Whilst Poveda provided a moment of magic, Tyler Roberts also featured in the side but struggled to stake his claim during the 1-1 draw.

How Leeds wanted Kyle Lafferty

Ex-Leeds manager Steve Evans has revealed that he tried to sign striker Kyle Lafferty during his stint at Elland Road.

Lafferty scored twice for Sunderland against Evans’ current side Gillingham at the weekend and after the game, Evans admitted to Kent Online that he wanted to sign Lafferty whilst in charge of the Whites during the 2015-16 season.

Lafferty joined Sunderland in January after leaving Norwegian Sarpsborg and has scored twice in 10 appearances for the Black Cats.
