Leeds United morning headlines: Whites' duo 'ready' for Premier League, ex-striker reveals wish for old club

Here are the Leeds United headlines on this Saturday morning.

Whites' pair are 'ready for top flight'

Former Leeds United centre-back Alex Bruce has earmarked two current players who he believes will have no difficulties in adapting to life in the Premier League, should the Whites gain promotion this season.

Though the Championship campaign, just like the rest of English football, has been placed in shutdown mode for the time being due to the widespread outbreak of the coronavirus, Leeds do sit top of the pile, narrowly ahead of West Bromwich Albion by a single point.

Whenever the season does resume, Marcelo Bielsa's side look well-placed for a tilt at the top tier.

'Hopefully the season continues and they can go up'

Kemar Roofe says he wants the English season to resume so that Leeds United can earn promotion.

Roofe departed Elland Road in the summer of 2019 to move to Belgian giants Anderlecht.

The coronavirus pandemic has suspended elite football across the globe and Roofe's current employers are no different, with their season also put on hold.

The 27-year-old was asked, during an interview with a national radio station, about his former clubs and whether he still follows their progress.

And Roofe had special praise for the Whites in particular - and that he hopes the Championship leaders get the chance to finish the job this term and earn promotion.

"They all mean something to me, especially Leeds," Roofe said. “They are a massive club and I still have a lot of friends there.

"I still watch them every week and see how they are doing.

"The most important thing is to stay safe and stay at home and take all the correct steps to not get the virus and not spread it.

“It’s more important than football. Hopefully the season will continue again soon and Leeds will be promoted.”

Eyeing up rivals' star men

We asked our writers, Joe Mewis and Beren Cross, to select one player from every club who'd they'd like to bring to Leeds either realistically or in a dream world during the transfer window.

There were some interesting suggestions from the pair

For instance, who was Joe talking about when he put: "The best prospect in the division. File this under the 'dream world' section of this brief.."?

Could wonderkids be on Bielsa's shopping list?

Erling Braut Haaland may be one transfer out of reach for Leeds United, at least for now, but the Borussia Dortmund striker's previous club Salzburg could provide Marcelo Bielsa with exactly the sort of talent he needs to make the Whites a Premier League force once more.

A future in the Premier League will make Leeds a very attractive club for other players keen to find new opportunities away from Salzburg.

So, who are the next generation of superstars coming out of Salzburg that Leeds need to be keeping tabs on for a new era of topflight football?

Hwang Hee-chan

Leeds United will be up against it in any bidding war for South Korea international Hwang as Premier League clubs consider a bid for the forward following his exciting performances in Europe.

The 24-year-old was linked with Brighton and Wolverhampton Wanderers amid talk of interest from far larger teams after a season that has seen him score 12 times in 25 matches while adding eight assists in the Austrian topflight.
