Leeds United morning headlines: Radrizzani talks about PSG takeover link, Casilla breaks silence after ban

All the latest news this Friday morning.

Kiko breaks his silence

Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla has given his first interview since being found guilty of racial abusing another player.

The Spanish stopper received an eight-game ban and was fined £60,000 for the incident involving Charlton's Jonathan Leko last September.

He has sat out the Whites' last two games but it could be some time before he plays for the club again, owing to the suspension of matches due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Now, speaking to Spanish media outlet Onda Regional de Murcia, Casilla says the Leeds squad must treat the return to action as a "mini-season".

And that when it is safe to do so, they are relishing the task of finishing the job and achieving promotion.

Whites' owner talks takeovers

Andrea Radrizzani, the owner of Leeds United, has provided an update on the latest rumours of a takeover at Elland Road.

Reports in some quarters had suggested that a £120million bid from Paris Saint-Germain owner Nasser al-Khelaifi, part of the QSI group, was forthcoming.

According to 90min.com, Radrizzani and Al-Khelaifi are "close to agreeing a deal".

More praise for KP

Another day, another comment on how good Kalvin Phillips is.

There's been plenty of praise come his way this season, from his manager to pundits to colleagues.

For instance, teammate Barry Douglas said of Phillips: "As a defensive midfielder with an array of passing skills, (he) is probably the best I’ve played with."

High praise indeed.

PFA confirms no plans for players to take pay cuts

The Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) issued a statement late last night defending its position after reports emerged claiming that they will block all wage deferrals.

The PFA wrote to all its members to warn them that it is "vitally important" they speak to their union before accepting wage cuts.

Players across the top-flight are coming under increasing pressure to agree to pay cuts due to the coronavirus pandemic that has led to the suspension of all football in England.

A number of sides, including Newcastle United and Tottenham, have reduced the pay of non-playing staff to compensate for lost revenue, a move that has received a fierce backlash from supporters.

But the PFA have claimed that reports they are ready to block all wage deferral are wrong, however, they do feel that while a club, like any business, is in a position to pay its staff then it should, including footballers.
