Leeds United morning headlines: Lawyer's warning to club over contracts, Whites' ace lauds Tony Pulis

Here are your Leeds United headlines for Saturday morning.

Legal wrangles that could affect Whites

Leeds United players who are out of contract can ignore FIFA proposals and become free agents in June, a leading sports lawyer has warned.

FIFA announced earlier this week that the expiry dates of player deals should be extended now it has been accepted league seasons will run well into the summer.

Championship fixtures are suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic with the Whites on course for automatic promotion and sitting pretty in top spot.

FIFA proposed that contracts are "extended until such time that the season does actually end" but Nick De Marco QC says players can walk away as the recommendation cannot be enforced under English employment law.

"Legally, they cannot be forced to continue to play for the club," De Marco said.

Leeds have three players out of contract soon, whilst four other players are on loan deals from other clubs.

Leeds again linked with Reds' striker

According to recent reports, Leeds are eyeing a swoop for Liverpool's Rhian Brewster.

The Whites were linked with him in January but instead he joined Swansea City on loan.

Alex Bruce, a former Leeds player, has said his old club should definitely consider tracking the youngster again.

“He’s definitely someone I would be looking at because they need goals,” Bruce said.

“Signing someone like him is definitely something that would tickle any club in my opinion.

“He’s young, he’s hungry, he’s done alright at Swansea, he’s got big potential.

“Those are the sort of players they should be looking at.”

Forward's debt of gratitude to old boss

Patrick Bamford feels his invaluable teamwork outweighs the long list of chances he has missed for Leeds United this season.

The Whites striker admits he should five, if not six, more goals to his name, but feels the team would suffer more if he began to play more selfishly to boost that tally.

Bamford is comfortable with his tag as a hard-working footballer focused on the collective rather than as a prolific striker.

And he credits his old Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis was the man who planted the seeds Marcelo Bielsa is now sowing.

We weigh up the best-case scenarios such as promotion without another ball being kicked.

And we also look at some of the worst-case scenarios, for instance the season being declared null and void.
