Leeds United morning headlines: Ex-England man's shock at Barry Douglas snub as EFL makes coronavirus comment

Leeds United morning headlines for Friday, March 13.

EFL comment on coronavirus concerns

The EFL has issued a new statement amid the concerns of the spread of coronavirus, confirming no further action has been taken.

A ban on pre-match handshakes was introduced ahead of last weekend’s fixtures but the number of cases in the UK has risen significantly since, with 596 confirmed cases on Thursday and 10 deaths.

Across Europe, leagues have either been postponed or have been ordered to be played behind closed doors but UK PM Boris Johnson stated after a COBRA meeting that no such action would follow.

Ex-England man's surprise at Douglas snub

Former England striker Darren Bent admits he is puzzled as to why Barry Douglas has struggled to gain a prominent place in Leeds United's first team.

Douglas arrived at Elland Road back in the summer of 2018 but has been reduced to a bit-part role this term.

The 30-year-old has struggled to break into the Whites' settled side this season.

Orta discusses his Elland Road role in-depth

Leeds United Director of Football Victor Orta has insisted his role expands outside of dealing with transfers and has given an insight in his responsibilities at the club.

Orta is an integral part of the Whites recruitment team, working closely with Marcelo Bielsa to bolster United's squad for promotion to the Premier League.

However, Orta has plenty of other remits outside of the summer and January transfer window, including scouting and the club's academy structure.

Lucky charm for Cardiff game?

As Marcelo Bielsa's side travel to take on Cardiff this Sunday, it has been confirmed that David Webb will be the man in the middle for the clash.

The referee has officiated seven Championship fixtures involving Leeds United already in his career, with the Whites losing only once.

With four wins and two draws coming in the other six games, a return of 14 points from seven games looks very healthy ahead of their match at the Cardiff City Stadium.
