The EFL confirmed on Friday morning that all matches in the Championship, League One and League Two are to be suspended up until April 3 as a minimum.

The decision, which has also been confirmed by Premier League clubs as well, comes as the country looks to try and combat the outbreak of the wide spreading coronavirus, which is currently sweeping its way across the globe.

It was thought that fixtures may be forced to be played behind closed doors, but the FA have announced that all fixtures at the elite-level of the English game are to be halted for at least the next three weeks.

As of Friday evening, there had been 798 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.

Remainder of the season thrown into doubt

Greg Clarke, the FA chairman, has suggested that there may not be enough time to complete this season if the suspension of matches runs over the first weekend in April.

Clarke was present at the Premier League's emergency meeting in London on Friday morning and is reported to have suggested that there will not be enough time for the 2019/20 campaign to reach its natural conclusion.

Should this prove to be the case, it could have major financial implications for clubs up and down the country.

Ex-England man demands for Whites to go up

Former England striker Darren Bent says that Leeds must be promoted to the Premier League this season if the Championship season ends up being scrapped all together over the fears of the coronavirus outbreak expanding.

Leeds currently sit top of the Championship by a solitary point after a fifth successive league win over Huddersfield Town last weekend moved them above West Brom.

But with the season having now been thrown into potential doubt, Leeds' hopes of going up this season could be shattered.

Fresh Augustin twist

Despite being drafted in during the January transfer window to try and help Leeds' goal-scoring troubles, Jean-Kevin Augustin's time at Elland Road could not have gone much worse.

He has made just three substitute appearances and is yet to find the back of the net.

With that in mind, it could be a relief for Leeds that a new development in his loan deal has been discovered, meaning the Whites may not have to sign him on a permanent basis this summer after all.
