Leeds United morning headlines as youngster tipped to shine and Tottenham man linked

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Sunday 14 June.

Augustin setback gives Roberts a chance

There was frustration for Leeds fans as January signing Jean-Kevin Augustin suffered another injury setback.

The forward was an exciting arrival at Elland Road but has featured for just 48 minutes spread across three substitute appearances to date.

However, as highlighted by Leeds Live, this will give an opportunity to Wales international Tyler Roberts who remains as primary back-up to Patrick Bamford up front.

“Condition-wise Tyler Roberts looks in great nick, great shape," midfielder Adam Forshaw is cited as saying by Leeds Live.

“I spoke to Stu Dallas and I’d seen Tyler getting into his car and he looked lean and well, bubbly. Stu said he's been so sharp in training.

“He’s got some ability Tyler. He’s been unfortunate with injuries but he could play a key part couldn’t he in the last nine games."

Taylor rejects salary cap calls

PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor has rejected calls for EFL clubs to have a salary cap imposed on them.

Taylor pointed to the example of the relegation of Saracens in Rugby Union as a scenario they would be keen to avoid, while such a rule would limit what clubs like Leeds could do in terms of recruitment.

EFL chairman Rick Parry has said a “proper reset” on finances across League One and League Two is essential, promoting the idea of a salary cap.

Championship season so far

Taylor told the Telegraph: "When you see what’s happened with Saracens in rugby union and in rugby league over salary caps, we’re not comfortable with the idea at all.

"Wherever there have been salary caps, there has been trouble and football won’t be any different from that. Akin to when there was a maximum wage in football, the first thing some do is look for ways round it.

“We’re not stupid, we know what can be sustained and what can’t be and there are lessons to be learned from Bury and other cases."

Spurs defender set for Elland Road

Tottenham defender Juan Foyth has been linked to a move with Barcelona but it is now claimed he could move to Elland Road.

Leeds Live cite a report from Sportsmole claiming that the Argentine defender, who played under Marcelo Bielsa at Lille, could be reunited with the Argentine boss next season.

The 22-year-old would represent a significant arrival at Leeds, who are hoping to secure promotion to the Premier League for the 2020/21 campaign.

Foyth has made only seven appearances for Tottenham in all competitions this season.
